My Absolute Favorite Homemade Salad Dressing Recipe – Saturday Strategy
POSTED ON June 16, 2017 BY Drew Canole
Are you eating salads every day, but not losing any weight? Do you feel icky after finishing a giant salad at a restaurant? Your salad dressing might be sabotaging your efforts. That’s right, your salad dressing!
I know, I know. It seems like everything on store shelves is trying to sabotage your health these days! Don’t worry, you can still enjoy delicious salad dressings WITHOUT having to pour harmful ingredients and chemicals over your kale and walnuts!
The Problem With Conventional Salad Dressings
Emulsifiers: Conventional salad dressings contain chemicals called emulsifiers, which are added to improve texture and prevent separation. Research has found that these chemicals have a negative impact on your gut bacteria and also trigger obesity in animal studies.
GMOs: A large percentage of store-bought salad dressings contain ingredients that are genetically modified like soybean oil and canola. GMOs are basically a big experiment on the human population and continue to be used despite evidence that they cause increased risk of premature death, organ damage, allergies, tumors and more.
High Fructose Corn Syrup: Imagine sitting down to a massive bowl of nutritious greens and superfoods and then pouring half a cup of sugar over the whole thing. Would you still feel like it was a healthy choice? Many salad dressings contain high fructose corn syrup, a highly processed sugar, as one of the core ingredients. It may make the dressing taste good, but it also spikes your blood sugar and increases your risk of asthma, diabetes, food allergies and chronic disease.
Titanium Dioxide: First of all, if you read an ingredient like this on a FOOD label and have no idea what it is… put it back on the shelf! You should always be able to recognize exactly what you are putting into your body! Titanium dioxide is a chemical that helps to make colors appear brighter. The paint industry uses it to make paint colors more visible. Is that really something you want to EAT?
Artificial Colors And Dyes: Still a common ingredient in processed foods, artificial colors and dyes have been linked to ADHD, allergies, asthma and even cancer. Caramel color, a particularly popular artificial color, has been classified as a carcinogenic substance in California since 2011.
Trans fats: I like to call these “fake fats” because that’s exactly what they are! Trans fats have been linked in studies to both diabetes and heart disease.
Monosodium Glutamate: This is a flavor enhancer that studies have linked to nerve-cell damage in the brain.
Would you believe that you can find all that in an innocent-looking salad dressing?
The Solution: Homemade Salad Dressings!
Instead of buying salad dressings, learn to make your own! It is a lot easier than you think. With a few simple ingredients like olive oil, apple cider vinegar, sea salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar… you can make delicious, clean dressings without any harmful ingredients.
