Licorice Laxative To Use For Constipation
Written by: Drew Canole
So many people are constipated! I don’t know about you, but when I’m not regular, I get kinda moody. It’s uncomfortable to be holding onto all that waste… and it’s not healthy!
The Trouble With Laxatives
Did you know that laxatives are one of the most commonly bought over-the-counter medications? Americans spend over 725 million dollars per year on laxatives. No crap?!
It seems a lot of people are having trouble being “regular” and it’s time to get back on track in the bathroom.
I know, nobody wants to talk about it – but it’s important. I’m going to share a little remedy that may just be the natural solution you’ve been looking for… you know, when your grandma’s prune juice suggestion ain’t doing the job!
So if you’re on the toilet right now with me, googling how to stop constipation, it’s a little too late. You’re stuck.
Most over-the-counter laxatives work by stimulating the lining of the digestive tract, which makes the muscles in your gut contract.
The problem is, when you use these as a regular remedy for constipation and digestive distress, they actually WEAKEN your body’s natural ability to go to the bathroom… making you even more dependant on laxatives.
The Function Of Your Gut And Bowels
Laxatives are only a short term solution to a deeper problem that is happening in your gut. And, as with most medications, they can actually have dangerous side-effects.
We know that 70-80% of our immune system is housed in our gut – and roughly 90% of our serotonin (that happy chemical). And listen up – with so many women dealing with estrogen dominance (that means the balance between estrogen and progesterone is off), keeping those BMs on point is key!
Why? Because excess estrogen is excreted THROUGH YOUR BOWELS!
Some people think that they can avoid some of the calories of the food they eat if they take laxatives… it seems like a “quick fix.”
When in reality, laxatives actually make your system hold onto MORE water weight and can even slow your metabolism.
They also tend to put your digestive system in distress.
Laxative overuse can result in:
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Digestive enzyme production issues
- Colon and organ damage
- And more…
Our bodies are designed to cleanse and detoxify on their own!
All we need to do is give our bodies the right healing fuels: more whole fruits and veggies, healthy fats, probiotic-rich foods, nuts and seeds and organic grass-fed animal products in moderation. Lots of healthy fiber!
Most professionals agree that you should be going to the bathroom daily, preferably multiple times. Think of babies. They eat and they poop – we should be that efficient, but most people are not.
If you’re one of them, try to focus on lifestyle changes first.
Once in awhile a laxative might be needed and in that case I’ve got a great natural recipe using safe herbs and plants!
Gentle Licorice Laxative Recipe
1. Combine the roots with water and mix well.
2. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
3. Drink 1-2 cups as needed.
4. For an even stronger laxative, add ½ part cascara.
Probiotics are a great way to support your gut health and keep the good and bad bacteria balanced. Biotic Balance is our very own high-quality probiotic, so be sure to try it out!
Here’s to happy and smooth digestion!
