Licorice Laxative To Use For Constipation
By Kirsten Cowart
Licorice is an incredible herb that has made its way into the hearts of several generations because of its popular appearance in candy.
One of the most interesting things about licorice is that, even though it is sweet like sugar, it is not sugar at all. Licorice is actually a glycyrrhizic acid, which makes it 50 times sweeter than regular sugar.
Don’t let this alarm you though; glycyrrhizic acid is also the part of this plant that makes it so good for you. Once your body digests licorice, it immediately starts acting as a natural anti-inflammatory that can soothe your system.
Medicinal Value Of Licorice
Licorice is a powerful anti-inflammatory plant that helps with arthritis, similar to hydrocortisone or corticosteroids. Unlike these substances, however, the licorice herb is a complex combination of powerful natural ingredients that can soothe inflamed tissue, support your hormones and endocrine system and act as an antiviral.
Licorice is used to fight off viral infections as powerful as shingles and herpes. In the gut, licorice can help with both peptic and gastric ulcers. Some will take freshly juiced cabbage leaves and mix them with licorice root to make a gastricular tea.
If you are ever seeking a gentle laxative, then this may be the right thing for you. Have you come across any other natural type of laxative that works well for you? If so, then we would love to hear all about it in the comments below!
Gentle Licorice Laxative
- 1 part chopped dandelion root
- 1 part chopped licorice root
- ½ part chopped yellow dock root
- Combine the roots and make sure to mix well. Prepare as a decoction and simply drink a cup or two as needed. If stronger action is needed, increase the yellow dock root or add ½ part cascara sagrada.
