Key Tip For Creating Good, Healthy Habits
Written by: Brandi Monasco
We all know that it is a good thing to have good habits. Part of having a healthy lifestyle is having sustainable habits and making sure that you keep a plan for them. No matter what kind of life you lead, it’s always important for you to have some good habits to incorporate into your life.
What Exactly Is A Good Habit?
A habit is something that you do on a daily basis that you really don’t even think about. It might be waking up at a certain time every morning and going to bed at a certain time every evening. It could be that you brush your teeth a certain way or that you stop at the same coffee shop every morning and order the same latte.
Good Habits Allow You To Reach Your Goals
Having good habits can help you to reach any goals that you set for yourself. They are basically a “road” to those goals. For example, if you want to run a marathon, you would not want to jump into the first marathon available. It can take months and sometimes years of training before you are able to reach that goal of running a marathon. This means that you need to incorporate running and training for a certain amount of time in your life, making it a habit to do it on a regular basis.
Good Habits Set Your Foundation For Life
A habit becomes who you are, regardless if it is a good or bad habit. However, having good habits can help you to set the tone for your entire life. For example, if you make it a habit to eat vegetables with every single meal, you will become a healthier person. If you greet strangers with the most kindness and sincerity, you will become a sincere and kind person.
Not Sure How To Start A New Habit?
Self-motivation is one of the major factors of starting a new habit. In order to be able to accomplish a large goal, you must first have smaller steps to reach that large goal, something like baby steps. Incorporating these smaller steps into your daily routine can create a habit which will eventually help you to achieve your larger goal.
Create a chain, meaning that instead of setting a goal of “I need to exercise every day,” make a chain action that will help you to get there. This can be something along the lines of “when I get home from work, I will change into exercise clothes and workout for 30 minutes.” Creating a plan along the way can help you to turn your action into a habit.
If you happen to fall off the wagon with your new habits, don’t quit. Try to find out why you fell off that wagon and eliminate the reason. It could be something as simple as changing up your routine to help yourself make your action into a habit.
