Often people ask me the benefits of juicing vegetables/fruits, the difference between blending and juicing, and what juicer to buy and how long fresh juice is good for. I thought that I would answer your questions in a single easy to understand post.
There is a reason why our Facebook Fan Page is called Juicing Vegetables. By juicing mostly vegetables and only a little bit of fruit for taste, we are reducing the amount of sugar content in our drinks.
Benefits of Juicing!
1. Many people ask me why they should juice when they could eat the vegetables or fruits. When you extract the juice from the vegetable all you are left with are beneficial micronutrients. Since your body doesn’t have to break down any components like insoluble fiber, your body is quickly absorbing micronutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and much more from the juice. That’s why often you get instant energy after having a juice!
2. Juicing also allows you to consume the needed vegetables and fruits that your body craves and needs for optimal health. If you find it difficult eating raw vegetables and fruit, then juicing is perfect for you. With juicing you are also getting a wide variety of different vegetables into your daily intake.
3. Juicing is a way to change the way you eat and will change the way you live. After you juice for a week, you will see and feel instant results. Blending vs. Juicing
Blending simply combines all the ingredients you place in your blender, leaving the pulp and fiber intact. Fiber is a great addition to your diet and can help prevent against many diseases. Unlike juicing, consuming blended drinks makes your body work harder to digest the ingredients.
Juicing separates the pulp from the vegetables and fruits, leaving only juice behind. With juicing you are still consuming beneficial soluble fiber like pectin. Juicing also helps with the removal of toxins from your body and also aids in weight loss.
Both are beneficial and should be added to your diet. I personally love juicing and have seen and felt the difference since juicing.

Choosing a Juicer
There are many juicers on the market to choose from. There are mainly three types of juicers, centrifugal juicers, masticating juicers and slow juicers.
Centrifugal juicers work best with soft and hard fruits and vegetables, but not quite as well with leafy greens like kale or spinach, or with wheatgrass. A centrifugal juicer spins at high speeds and during the spinning motion, the vegetables that you have shoved down the chute are ground to a pulp. It’s best to drink your juice immediately to get optimal results. The pros of this type of juicer is that it’s quick and easy to clean.
A masticating juicer grinds vegetables and literally squishes out the juice. Since a masticating juicer works at low speeds and with no spinning action, it tends to juice many vegetables more efficiently. Because of the slower crushing and squeezing action, masticating juicers can process leafy greens and wheatgrass, and the juice that they produce will last much longer than juice made in a centrifugal juicer, which should be consumed right away as it starts losing nutrients nearly immediately. I found masticating juicers to be harder to use, more time consuming and harder to clean.
A new breed of juicers is emerging, the slow juicer or upright juicer. This type of juicer has an upright design similar to centrifugal juicers, but operates similar to the masticating juicer, with the auger or gear that crushes the food and presses out the juice.
I have seven juicers. They range from centrifugal to masticating juicers. I use the Jay Kordich PowerGrind Pro juicer. It is a slow juicer so you get similar benefits as a masticating juicer but it’s way easier to clean and easy to use. Also this juicer is a money saver. You get a ton of juice by only using a small amount of vegetables. With my other juicers I had to use more vegetables to get the same amount of juice as I got from my PowerGrind Pro juicer.
How long can juice stay good for?
I get asked this question quite often. Almost everyday. The answer really depends on what juicer you are using. If you are using a centrifugal juicer you should drink it immediately or within the first 10 minutes. If you are careful you can store your juice in airtight containers and place them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. If you are using a masticating juicer, your juice is often good for 24-48 hours.
Words of Advice…
If you are on certain medications or have any medical conditions check with your physician before starting any new program.
Remember to buy organic vegetables and use veggie wash before juicing….it’s worth it.
Here is a list of the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15! The dirty dozen are veggies/fruits that have to be purchased organic. The clean 15 are veggies/fruits that you can get away non-organic with eating because you can easily peel the skin layer off, or the veggies is simply not affected as bad as the dirty 12 list. With carrots, peel them if non-organic. As a general rule of thumb, remove the seeds.
Don’t Know Where to Start to begin Juicing Vegetables?
1. Get a starter juicer like the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer from Costco for < 100. Look for the 20% from Bed, Bath and Beyond. If you don’t want to purchase a juicer right away, look into this $2 solution using your blender.
2. Start cleaning out your kitchen. Remove processed foods, sugars, gluten, and dairy products.
3. Start juicing 🙂 Try Apples + Carrots. If you buy non-organic, just peel the produce and refer to the chart above. Just take 1 drink per day along with your regular diet and see how your body responds.
