Juicing and Pregnancy

Juicing is all the rave these days and for a great reason; it is amazing for your body! There is no healthier and more natural multivitamin that you can take than a homemade, fresh juice of colorful fruits and vegetables. That begs the question: Can I juice while pregnant?!

Juices are actually perfect for pregnant ladies, but of course you should ask your doctor’s opinion as well. Fruits and vegetables are very nutrient dense, providing active enzymes, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients- all things good for you and baby.

Juicing, Pregnancy, Organic

Fruit is amazingly healthy for a good pregnancy and an excellent way to satisfy sweet cravings while deeply hydrating your cells and baby’s too. But remember, it is still a good idea to limit fruits to avoid sugar spikes and crashes.

The reason why our bodies tend to crave certain foods is because we might be lacking a nutrient our system needs. Green drinks fend off other weird cravings because your nutrient-desires will already be fulfilled.

As your stomach slowly gets squished by baby’s growing body you will notice it’s easier to fit and digest a juice rather than a large bowl of steamed veggies and hand held fruits. It is also a good idea to eat a serving of lean protein and healthy fats with each juice to ensure you are getting them throughout the day as well.

Juicing is also a great way to ease up constipation, a common side effect of baby’s heavy body on your intestines. Make sure you still have some fiber each day. One mostly vegetable juice a day is a wise choice, listen to your body and remember the key thing is moderation and balance.

Juice like a normal (non-preggo) person would and here are some important things to keep in mind:

Juicing, Pregnancy, Organic

  • Scrub your fruits and vegetables thoroughly.
  • Buy organic produce.
  • Juice specific vegetables high in folic acid to help with baby’s development:
    • Kale, spinach, chard, romaine lettuce, mustard, turnip and collard greens.
    • Oranges, lemons, grapefruit, strawberries, raspberries.
    • Tomatoes and beets.
    • Asparagus, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli.
    • Juice water dense fruits and vegetables for good hydration:
      • Watermelon
      • Cucumbers
      • Celery
      • Watercrest
      • Use a good variety of ingredients to ensure max-nutrients.
      • Discard leftover juices, normally juices can be stored for 12 hours, however, when pregnant you want to avoid drinking leftover unpasteurized juice for safety reasons.
      • Don’t juice fast. It isn’t necessary or healthy when you should be taking an excess of good-healthy calories in. Again, your body is growing another human; this is no time to restrict calories (but also not the time to gorge either!)

Don’t stress too much if you get nausea at the thought of green juices or anything you normally eat, this will settle down. Pregnancy can be a crazy, ever-evolving ride!

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
