Is Your Beauty Routine TOXIC?

You take care to drink clean water, eat organic vegetables and stay away from nasty processed foods.
You exercise, stretch your muscles and give that heart of yours a work out.
And it’s all in the spirit of living a healthy lifestyle, feeling vibrantly alive and having energy to accomplish you goals.
Drink water. Eat clean. Exercise. Sounds like the standard recipe for great health, right?
And it is! BUT there is more…
What goes ON your body is just as important as what goes IN.
This means that the lotions, makeup, toothpaste, shampoos and other beauty products you use can either enhance or threaten your health and wellbeing.
Because cosmetics aren’t subject to the same oversight as food and medicine by the Food and Drug Administration, many of the popular brands are hiding harsh chemicals that have been linked to cancer, birth defects and organ failure – YIKES! The FDA isn’t responsible for deciding if new ingredients are safe or not… it is up to the manufacturer to decide if a product is safe or not.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to leave my health and safety in the hands of a profit-hungry manufacturer! Here is a two-step process to clean up your beauty routine and give yourself a truly healthy glow:
1. Inventory Evaluation: Take a close look at all your beauty product ingredients by studying the labels. Don’t recognize 99% of the ingredients? Then it’s probably best that you trash that item and search for a healthier option.
2. Swap It: With just 3 natural products, you can overhaul your beauty regime and guarantee that the potions and lotions you are using are safe and harmless!
Here are three excellent ingredients to not only use in your kitchen, but also use in your bathroom:
1. Coconut Oil:
- Moisturizer: To get incredibly smooth skin, use coconut oil all over your body (even your face). Or add it to your bath for an awesome skin moisturizing boost! Just be careful when you stand up, this stuff can be slippery.
- Make Up Remover: Coconut oil works like a charm to take off stubborn mascara, without any stinging or posing any danger to your delicate eyes.
- Dental Health (Oil Pulling): Take 1-2 tablespoons and swish the oil around your mouth for 20 minutes. This simple practice has been shown to improve your overall dental hygiene and health!
2. Apple Cider Vinegar:
- Hair Wash: Make a mixture of 1 part ACV and 1 part warm water. It will leave your hair clean and shiny and no worries – your hair will not smell like ACV!
- Toner: Apply some ACV to your face with a cotton ball to help cleanse and tone your skin.
- Detox Drink: A healthy glow on the outside starts with a healthy inside. Mix 2 tablespoons of ACV in your morning lemon water to get an additional detoxing boost.
3. Baking Soda:
- Hair Wash: Before you rinse your hair with an apple cider wash, take some baking soda and massage it through your hair and scalp. It will help cleanse away any buildup from products. These two treatments will leave your hair feeling very soft and “full of life” (I have thin hair, which is often weighed down by using shampoos, conditioners and styling products. When I use this natural method of baking soda and ACV, my hair has such great texture and bounce!)
- Gentle Exfoliator: To slough away dead skin cells, take some baking soda and gently scrub your skin. This is particularly beneficial for your face. It’s gentle and will give your complexion a nice glow and silky-smooth feeling.
- Toothpaste: Mix some baking soda with coconut oil for a safe and effective way of cleaning your pearly whites.
