Is This The Next Miracle Root?
Written by: Kavata Kithome
As an avid fan of searching for things that can keep my health at optimum levels, I ran into something called Devil’s Claw.
The name itself had me intrigued; I found that this root originates from the Kalahari and Savannah desert regions of South and SouthEast Africa and some of its common names are the ‘grapple plant’ or the ‘wood spider.’ It has been longed used by people of the region to help chronic illnesses.
In particular, devil’s claw has been used to help with arthritis, lower back, knee and hip pain, upset stomach, loss of appetite, headaches, allergies and fever.
This root gets its super power from the iridoid glycosides it contains and is believed to have strong anti-inflammatory properties, a high concentration of harpagoside (which is thought to relieve pain and inflammation), magnesium, luteolin and calcium.
By now you must be wondering how to get your hands on this root, but I would caution first that, before adding this devil’s claw to your regimen, please consult your doctor, as it has been known to conflict with medications.
Devil’s Claw can be found in capsule form, tablets, liquid extracts and topical ointments and the dried root can be used in a tea infuser. These can be purchased at any health food store or even on amazon and can be taken as a supplement.
