Over the years, we have found ways to preserve fruits and vegetables so that they can be available to us all year round. However, there is just something about eating fruits or vegetables fresh from the farm and at the peak of their season. Especially during spring, some of our favorite fruits and vegetables are at the peak of their flavor and nutritional value.
There are foods and there are superfoods. Superfoods live up to their hype as being called “super.” They are rich in minerals and antioxidants, low in bad cholesterol and help in lowering the risk of cancer, heart-related problems and other diseases. And the good news is, spring is one of the best seasons to find these particular highly nutritious foods.
Spring Superfoods To Enjoy This Season:
Avocado: This is my favorite superfood of all time and it’s easy to see why. This incredibly tasting superfood is not only delicious, but rich in minerals and healthy fats that are good for your body. Avocados are loaded full of monounsaturated fat, which helps lowers blood cholesterol levels, making it useful in helping with heart conditions.
Asparagus: Asparagus contain highly impressive nutrients that help you to have an optimum healthy life. The National Cancer Institute ranks asparagus as the food with the highest glutathione content. Glutathione is an important anti-carcinogen. Asparagus also contain essential nutrients like vitamins C, A and B6, potassium, thiamin, selenium and rutin.
Blueberries: Besides the mouthwatering taste of this superfood, blueberries are loaded with great health benefits. Blueberries have a high amount of potassium, vitamin C and antioxidants.
Spinach: Spinach is one superfood you can always depend on. Spinach is an amazing source of vitamin B and vitamin K. It helps in preventing congenital disabilities, heart diseases, dementia and even colon cancer.
