Immunity Boosting Spicy Turmeric Super Shot – Saturday Strategy

At this point in our quest for optimum health, I’m sure that you, like me, have discovered that there are a LOT more benefits to organic food stuffs than just weight loss.  In fact, if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably also come to the conclusion that food is far and away more powerful than any dietitian, nutritionist, or weight loss guru could ever comprehend.  The more I study and research the benefits of organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, nuts, and other plants, the more astonished I am at their power.  

Now, several of you have been writing in asking how to “ramp up” your immune systems as we enter the winter months.  I think back to the yearly cold and sinus infections I used to get.  Every epic sled ride, snow-man, and snowball fight I had as a kid, was usually followed by a few days of the sniffles.  A few more days of rest, and a few more pots of mom’s chicken soup.  It’s impossible to deny, cold weather is taxing on our bodies.  As blood cells are working feverishly to help regulate our body’s internal temperature, we have less resources to fight off infections and viruses.  We should also keep in mind that this time of year, cloud cover blocks our exposure to the son, which plays a huge role in our immunity as well.  There’s also some new evidence suggesting that colder temperatures cause a spike in blood pressure.

So it goes without saying, staying warm will help keep your immune system at a normal level, but don’t bust out that ONESIE thinking you’ll be all set.  If we’ve learned anything in the last few years together, it’s that FOOD is medicine, and it is just as powerful at preventing sickness as it is curing it.  

Whenever I’m feeling a little under the weather, or I’m bracing for a “cold” front (I live in San Diego), I usually don’t waste any time.  I reach for my secret weapon: TURMERIC.

Turmeric Root comes from a plant called Curcuma and has been used for thousands of years throughout China, India, and other Asian and Pacific countries as a condiment, a dye, and most importantly, as medicine.  This root has been used the world over to treat inflammation, bowel disease, arthritis, cystic fibrosis, liver disease, lower cholesterol, prevent Alzheimer’s, and fight cancer.  (Wow!)

Basically, it’s a supercharger for your immune system, and along with ginger and lemon, should be in every kitchen on this planet.  I said it. (I’m considering keeping some under my pillow.)

So as we round the corner out of fall and begin to approach winter, and colder temperatures, let’s make an Immune Boosting Turmeric Shot to take in the morning, and help us stay healthy and strong all winter long.  Here’s a little info on the immunity boosting super foods we’ll be using:

GingerGinger – This antimicrobial antioxidant will help eliminate congestion, fight the chills, and treat fevers.  It’s fragrance and spice is very powerful, so start small and work your way up. In addition, ginger does not only help in warming you on a cold day, but can help promote healthy sweating, which is very much helpful during colds and flus.

 

LemonLemon – Excellent at treating sore throats, coughs, and relieving sinus pressure, lemons are also extremely high in vitamin C and citrus acid.  This helps in the fight against infection. And it doesn’t just end there, lemons have been known to contain medicinal values and antibacterial properties. It also has traces of iron and vitamin A.

 

turmericTurmeric – This natural antiseptic is extremely high in antioxidants and has very powerful inflammation fighting properties.  It’s been used widely to reduce sinus inflammation and relieve sinus based headaches.

  • 1-2 knuckle ginger
  • 1 half lemon
  • 1 knuckle turmeric
  • 1 dash cayenne pepper
Instructions
  1. Gather all recipe and make sure everything is properly cleaned/washed.
  2. Add the ginger, lemon, and turmeric into the juicer, making sure the juice is properly extracted.
  3. Garnish with a dash of cayenne for an extra kick then drink and enjoy!

Turmeric alone is an acquired taste, but mixed with lemon and 2 knuckles of ginger… WOW.  It’s going to take some getting used to. Immediately you should notice your sinuses clear, and the mucous in your throat start to thin.  The aroma of these raw roots alone will kill some bacteria in your sinus cavities.  

Just keep in mind, food is medicine.  Some medicine tastes better than others, but we aren’t taking this medicine for the flavor.  The immune boosting properties are absolutely undeniable.  Add this to your weekly diet, and get ready to reduce your sick days by a long “shot”.
