We all desire to have smooth and soft skin, right? Babies have soft and tender skin and it is our responsibility to take care of them. Most of us are worried about chemicals and ingredients available in the store bought baby care products. You’re never sure what kind of nasty things are in those products and you definitely don’t want to put them on your baby’s skin!
That’s where an all natural product that we are all familiar with comes in: coconut oil.
Coconut oil is an amazing natural product, it has lots of benefits such as antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. In fact, it can be used to aid almost all skin conditions. The good thing about using coconut oil on your baby is that it is cost effective and – most importantly – is gentle on your baby.
There are various types of coconut oils in the market today. Some of these include the refined coconut oil, pure coconut oil, virgin coconut oil and organic coconut oil.
The Benefits Of Coconut Oil On Your Baby
The anti inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of coconut oil make it one of the most nourishing oils. Coconut oil has a unique molecular structure that makes it super easy to be absorbed into the skin and allows it to provide longer lasting benefits.
Here are a few ways that you can use coconut oil on your baby:
1. Cradle Cap
This condition is common in newborns; it involves a flaky scalp and seems like dandruff. This is caused because babies cannot make oil on their scalp like adults can. Applying coconut oil to the baby’s scalp and letting it sit for about 20 minutes then rinsing with warm water can help solve this problem.
2. Diaper Rash
This is very common, you will find that all babies get this at some point. Coconut oil nourishes the skin better compared to most store bought rash creams. Simply apply a layer of coconut oil to the baby’s bottom after a bath and alternating diaper changes. Make sure to get in the folds of the skin.
3. Dry And Chapped Lips
Babies have sensitive skin that can dry out oftentimes, but coconut oil can be a solution for this. Babies can be affected by temperature and sometimes their lips will dry up. This can be uncomfortable for them. Dip a Q-tip into a little bit of coconut oil and apply around and on your baby’s lips.
4. Baby Wash
You can make your own natural baby wash using coconut oil. Use equal parts of caster oil and coconut oil and mix them together. Simply apply the mixture to your baby as you would regular baby wash and lather. Wash off with warm water.
5. Baby Acne
Baby skin is so sensitive that sometimes it can also get acne. Coconut oil provides a natural remedy for baby acne. You just have to apply the oil to the affected areas and let it sit there for a few minutes and then wash off with warm water. With time the acne will be gone.
Coconut oil is amazing for many things, both inside and outside of your body. Try using it on your baby’s skin and see the great benefits that coconut oil can provide.
