How To Take Extreme Ownership of Your Life – Mindset Monday
POSTED ON September 12, 2016 BY Drew Canole
“When my body gets tired, my mind says, ‘This is where winners are made.’ When my mind gets tired, my heart says, ‘This is where champions are made.’” – Baylor Barbee
Often I look around and see people giving up control in different aspects of their lives. They are handing over the reins to their own horse and saying, “I can’t control this.”
Do you feel like you’re out of control in any of the following areas?
Job or career
Thriving in school
Before the beginning of FitLife (over five years ago now), I was giving up control in the way of my physical body. I was eating things that would make my taste buds go CRAZY for more sugar and I weighed 40 pounds more than I should have.
I would wake up late every day around 9 or 10am, I was lazy, I was lethargic, I was complacent… and the only thing I looked forward to was Friday – the start of my weekend! I could check out Friday afternoon, I could go to the local bar and buy all the drinks I wanted… honestly, I would basically black out for the weekend.
Then I would wake up on Monday morning and start all over again like it was groundhogs day. Remember that movie? That was my life! Maybe you can relate…
It wasn’t until I decided to reclaim control of my health and my life that I was able to do a 180 and completely change nearly every area of my life.
Your personal struggles will be different from mine. But they will boil down to the same problem… giving up personal responsibility or ownership your own life.
Maybe you’ve given your power over to other people; peers, a doctor, a teacher. Maybe to an addiction (food, social media, etc). Maybe you’ve given it up to your fears or insecurities.
Why do we do it? Why do we hand over the reins to our own horse?
Maybe it feels easier when we don’t feel responsible… when we can blame our problems on someone else… it takes a weight off our shoulders.
But this is not the road of a champion, my friend.
Does the name J.K. Rowling ring any bells? This world-famous Harry Potter author didn’t always have such power in her life.
Yep. If you would’ve seen J.K. Rowling walking down the street in 1994 you probably wouldn’t have thought of her as someone who would do much of anything with her life. You see, at this time J.K. Rowling was recently divorced, living on government aid and barely able to feed her own kid.
She was SO poor that she couldn’t even afford a photocopy of her own manuscript to send out to publishers! She had to type out each version by hand.
Her work was rejected… not once… not twice… but DOZENS of times before someone finally caught the vision at a small publishing company in London.
What if she had never taken ownership of her life? What if she’d of decided to just struggle under the surface of greatness her whole life? The world of Harry Potter would have never come to be.
Are you ready to…
Take control of your life again?
Feel like you’re in the drivers seat?
Call the shots when it comes to your job?
Drastically improve your relationships?
Reclaim your health?
Become the champion you were meant to be?
Here are a few steps to help you reclaim control:
#1 DETERMINE WHERE YOU HAVE GIVEN UP CONTROL
“Rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.” – J.K. Rowling
Our health, our emotional life, our spiritual life, our financial life, our relationships… these are all spokes on our life wheel. If you are not taking care of yourself in one of these areas, then all the others are going to be shorter and not function as well.
So which one is it for you? Health? Relationships? Are you letting your boss decide how much money you’ll make the rest of your life? Are you letting modern culture determine what you eat and how your body looks?
Where in your life do you feel the most out of control?
#2 ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY
Take ownership. Step up to the plate. Reclaim radical responsibility! There are no victims. You are a VICTOR. You are the CREATOR of your own life experience! Until you step into that and realize that everything that you’ve brought into your life is of your doing… you won’t be able to change. You have to take responsibility.
Now I know a lot of you are dealing with a lot of hard problems. Maybe you have a rare disorder or disease. Maybe you can never seem to get ahead financially. Maybe your family life sucks.
You might think that these are all on someone else… the government, your college, your teacher, your peers, you parents….
Until you take radical responsibility for your own life and not let other people dictate it, you are going to live over and over and over again in impending doom. You will never break free.
#3 EMPOWER YOURSELF
“It is important to remember that we all have magic inside us.” – J.K. Rowling
Believe that you are a champion. Remember your dreams. What is it you REALLY WANT? If you didn’t need anyone’s permission… what would you do?
Believe it. See it. Live it.
You are your own boss. You are your own person. Figure your what makes your soul and your heart BURN. Then do that!
#4 FACE YOUR FEARS/INSECURITIES HEAD ON
What scares the heck out of you? What is holding you back? Recognize it. Then face it. Lean into that fear!
When you lean into your fears… something amazing happens. You recognize the fear, you live through it, you do it, you move PASSED it and you become a bigger version of yourself.
I used to be so afraid of air turbulence that I would have to do breathing exercises and drink tons of Organifi just to make it through a flight without my stress levels going through the roof. Then one day I decided to lean into my fear… and I booked a flight lesson.
I got in one of the tiniest plans around and learned how to fly it off the ground. There was a whole heck of a lot more turbulence on that tiny plane than I’d ever felt in a bigger one. But you know what? I did it. And now I can go onto any plane without freaking out.
Now you know where you are not in control… you can start taking small steps to change.
Small steps are OK so as not to be overwhelmed. Sometimes as human beings we want to jump straight to level 10 but we are not always in a place mentally and emotionally to take that kind of leap.
So start small. Lean into a little fear. Imagine what life would be like if you were in control of your career… your weight… your talents. Start to believe that you are the master of your own life. Because you ARE.
YOU are the master artist. Your life is the canvas. Yes there are things over which we have no control, but they are fewer than you think.
The world is at your fingertips. Grab it and enjoy the ride!

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
