Create Your Own Morning Routine
But morning routines take time… You are right. If you struggle to fit in a sound routine, quit using the snooze and start waking up earlier. No matter what, don’t skip your morning routine. It truly makes a difference and sets you up for the rest of your day.
When creating a morning routine, it is important to make it yours. Don’t just look up XYZ celebrity’s or fitness guru’s morning routine, but consider what works for you. Ask yourself what your body and soul need to start your day energized?
Starting your day with a moment of gratitude, 5-10 minutes of journaling, meditation, stretching, a glass of warm lemon water are all excellent ideas. But you can mix and match. Perhaps reading for a short time is something you are craving. If tea is your jam, perhaps you want a glass of herbal tea to feel cozy. It’s your morning – create it!
Remember, your evening routine is just as important. Add some journaling, reading, meditation, relaxation and gratitude to your evening. Wind down your way.
You might’ve heard about the importance of home cooking. It is the best way to know what you put into your body and to connect with your food. But again, making it yours makes it more fun.
Stop by your favorite bookstore to browse some cookbooks. They are so pretty to look at. Buy one or two that resonates with you. You can also look online for fun and healthy recipes.
Try at least one new recipe each week. If you like it, you can add it to your regulars to mix up your weekly meals. Sharing the joy of cooking with someone can also make it more fun.
Find Exercise You Enjoy
As with everything, there is no right size fits all. There is also no such thing as “I hate exercise.” You simply haven’t found the right one.
There are so many ways and places to exercise, if you search for it, you will find something you love. If you don’t like the gym, get outdoors. If you don’t like working out alone, try group classes or join some exercise group. Try different forms of cardio: running, biking, swimming, elliptical training, hiking, dancing or even walking. Try different forms of strength training, such as weightlifting, powerlifting, CrossFit, TRX, or barre. Try more mindfulness-based activities, such as yoga, TaiChi, dance meditation, or pilates.
Don’t judge based on the first class. Give everything a fair shot. If you don’t like it after a month, move on. Mixing your exercise routine can also prevent boredom.
Set Realistic Goals
Setting goals is important to reach success, but setting realistic goals can truly set you up for success.
It is awesome to dream big. Set a big dream goal you want to achieve in a year or whatever time frame. But also set short-term realistic goals to guide you on your journey.
Write down your goals and stick them somewhere you can see them, in your journal, on your fridge, on your bathroom mirror, at your workstation or wherever else. Visualize your goals.
Don’t get down on yourself if you stumble. And don’t forget to celebrate each small step along the way.
Find A Support System
Remember, you are not alone. It is easier to make a lifestyle change and develop new healthy habits if you have a support system.
Look for Facebook groups, online groups and live groups in your area on meetup. Find a group where you support each other on this adventure. Find an accountability buddy or two. Hire a coach or mentor for additional support. The more support you have, the better your chances of success and the more fun you will have on the way.
