How To Make Green Juice Without Sugar/Low Sugar

green juice, sugar, low sugar

As I’m sure you know, juicing is a highly popular health trend currently and has good reasons for it. It’s an excellent way to get your body fresh and quality nutrients in one of the quickest ways possible and helps boost your digestion, focus, energy and more.

However, one of people’s main concerns when they are considering juicing is the potential spike in sugar it can cause.

This is a legitimate concern, especially considering how quickly the contents contained in juice can make it into the body’s system. When the amount of sugar in juice is high, a sugar spike is entirely possible.

That’s why it’s important to pay attention to the ingredients you are choosing for your juices and keeping in mind that the greener a juice is, the better it is for your body.

These are some delicious tips to help you keep your juices low in sugar to avoid those dreaded and potentially unhealthy sugar spikes and still keep your juices yummy and nourishing. These particular ingredients not only help reduce the sugar content, but also create great bases and even take away the bitter taste of greens.

How To Lower Sugar Content When Juicing

#1. Cucumbers

Cucumbers are one of the best go-to ingredients that not only contain zero sugar, but also create a great base for juices and provide incredible hydrating qualities. They also don’t greatly impact the taste, making them super inconspicuous and yet still effective.

#2. Celery

Celery is a similar choice to cucumbers as it makes a great base, contains no sugar and provides hydration, the biggest difference is that it does contribute to taste. The funny thing about juicing ingredients like celery though is that it tends to taste better juiced than it does raw.

#3. Lemons And Limes

Lemons and limes not only contain bounteous benefits, but they also are two of the few fruits that have incredibly low amounts of sugar. They both work as powerful cleansers and contain lots of vitamin C. Their tart and citrus flavors also help compliment and counteract the bitter flavor of most greens.

#4. Greens

If you’re new to juicing, specifically green juicing, it’s recommended that you start with spinach, as spinach has a mild taste. It’s also very alkalizing and filled with essential nutrients. Swiss chard can also be a good option for beginners. When you’re a beginner, it’s recommended you only start with a couple handfuls of greens and increase overtime. If you use several of the other ingredients on this list, the taste of greens can also be greatly improved.

#5. Granny Smith Apples (Green Apples)

A lot of times, it’s highly preferred to have a sweet taste to juices. One of the best ways to achieve a great sweet taste without adding too much sugar is throwing in some Granny Smith apples (green apples). They contain the lowest amount of sugar when compared to other apples and taste crisp and delicious.

#6. Sea Salt (Celtic Or Himalayan)

Not to be confused with common table salt (which is stripped of nutrient quality), sea salt is a high essential mineral ingredient that can mellow the bitterness of greens and actually improve the taste.

#7. Spices

Adding a little heat to juices through spices like Cayenne can greatly improve the taste without adding any sugar or sweetener. Ginger root, jalapenos, turmeric and other spices can be great options as well to not only add a kick, but also add incredible benefits.
