How To Let Go Of The Attachment Of The Outcome – Mindset Monday

Worry is energy.

When you focus so hard on the outcome of a situation, all of your energy becomes  focused on an EXPECTATION instead of the present moment and what is actually happening.

In other words – you become a worry wart.  And you attract more of what you do not want!

How do you release worry and gain freedom?

There is a root cause to the negativity in your life.

Your disappointment…

Your depression…

Your irritability…

Your frustration…

It’s your expectations.

We all have them. Big ones, giant ones, little ones, tiny ones. Expectations for others and expectations for ourselves. Expectations for situations and experiences.

We get so focused on what we don’t want and when it doesn’t happen, it destroys us.

When we rely on our expectations and life falls short, it can be very uncomfortable. In fact, I would go as far to say that when expectations rule our lives, we set ourselves up for disappointment.

What is the opposite of expectation? Trust.

When you release expectation, you allow for space to embrace trust. Trust in the flow of the Universe. Trust in God. Trust that things are rolling out just the way they should. Trust that even when things go contrary to plan, that they are still going your way somehow.

I was talking to a friend who was in the middle of a really toxic relationship. You know the type. I could see it from my perspective, but I didn’t want to hurt her and tell her exactly what I thought… I just went to her and offered to listen.

Note to the guys:

Just listening, without offering our opinion, etc. is a hard thing for most of us to do. You see, guys are fixers. We like to hear problems and then come up with a solution. But let me tell you, this is not what the ladies usually want! It’s important that we HEAR what they are saying and ask if they are open to feedback instead of pushing our thoughts and ideas upon them.

Oftentimes, they just want someone to listen. To really HEAR what they are saying.

So I went and I  listened to my friend who was in this relationship and she started telling me about all these expectations she had for her and her boyfriend.

She was investing a lot in this relationship… time, money resources, emotions, love…

She wanted it to work out so bad. But over the two year period that she’d been dating this guy, it just wasn’t working out the way she anticipated it would.

She started to blame the “lack” on herself.

And then she started to change herself to FIT the relationship. Instead of being true to herself. And attracting more of what she truly desired.

When we start to conform ourselves to a situation – a relationship, a job, or an expectation – then we stop simply BEING who we really are deep down. And who YOU are is absolutely amazing!

When this goes on long enough, we start to base our identity on something that is outside of us. Can you see a problem here?

The Keys To Releasing The Attachment To Expectation

I want you to ask yourself these two questions.

Who are you when you’re not “doing” anything?

Who are you when you’re not expecting (fill in the blank)?

Learn to move forward with love, trust and compassion for yourself.  

There will always be new expectations to be met preventing us from letting go and truly embracing our lives.

Remind yourself that you are enough. You were born enough. In “being” – you are already more than enough.

Here are 3 tools I like to use when this comes up for me, which have been powerful in my life to release expectations and allow myself to show up authentically… I believe these will help you tremendously. At least that’s my hope.

1. Imagery

You can use imagery. Visualize yourself stepping into your power and casting aside your negativity in whatever way fits for you. What does it look like? Smell like? Sound like? Go deep with this – and create a real, honest picture of what you truly want and need.

2. Positive Self Talk

You can use positive self-talk instead of negative self talk, saying to yourself such things as, “I’m feeling better and better by the moment.”

You can program yourself to receive only positive thoughts and impressions from the world around you, by telling yourself such things as, “I allow in the positive and the negative is absorbed by the universe around me. Positive energy is all I receive.”

3. Positive Affirmations

We’ve already seen how positive affirmations can change your mental attitude – you can adapt those affirmations so that your expectancy is enhanced and resolute.

I want you to be free.

I don’t want you to be imprisoned by the expectations you set for yourself. I don’t want you to feel trapped by the expectations the world has set for you.

Life is hard enough without trying to please everyone. Be true to yourself and allow the Universe to work in your favor. I promise it will – always. Even when you can’t see it.
