How To Dye Easter Eggs Naturally

Easter is here and it’s time to dye your Easter eggs. But you don’t want to use chemical-filled artificial dyes – use natural alternatives instead!

Vegans, keep reading, you can buy ceramic eggs as a vegan alternative and dye them the same way.

Even if you don’t celebrate Easter, keep reading for a fun crafty activity.

How To Dye Easter Eggs Naturally


  • Hard-boiled eggs or ceramic eggs as a vegan-alternative
  • Yellow/gold: 1 tsp of ground turmeric
  • Blue: 2 cups of blueberries crushed
  • Pink/Red (pick one):
    • 2 cups of chopped raw beets
    • 2 cups of raspberries
    • 2 cups of cranberries
  • Orange (pick one):
  • Yellow (pick one):
    • 2 cups of shredded carrots
    • 1 cup of orange or lemon peels
  • Purple: Hibiscus tea
  • Green: 3 cups of spinach
  • Blue/Lavender: 2 cups of blackberries
  • Orange/Red: 1 tsp paprika
  • Brown: 2 tbsp of ground coffee
  • Distilled white vinegar (1 tsp for each color)
  • Water (2 cups for each color)



  • Add your choice of coloring ingredients (eg. blueberries for blue or beets for red) into a pot filled with 2 cups of water.
  • Boil your water.
  • Reduce it to medium-heat to simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Using a mesh sieve, strain it. Discard and compost all solids.
  • Stir in the vinegar and cool it until room temperature.
  • Submerge each egg until the desired color is reached.
  • For fun patterns, you can put rubber bands around your eggs or draw on them with wax before coloring.
