Use This Technique Once a Day to Help Drain Your Lymph Glands and Remove Toxins

Exfoliation has been around for ages, but is mostly thought of as a beauty treatment, not a health treatment. Beauty is a great reason to care for your skin, but not the most important one by far. Better health is the bigger benefit that comes from embracing a practice of exfoliation.

To exfoliate is to remove the oldest dead and flaky skin cells from the surface of your skin. It is a simple process that involves gentle abrasion, which opens clogged pores and helps the skin to breathe. With the skin being the largest organ in the body and one of the key components of the body’s built-in detoxification system, it is logical that what happens in the body is reflected through the skin. Therefore, by assisting one of the skin’s natural functions, you will be better off for it.

2 Of The Biggest Reasons To Exfoliate

1. The most obvious reason to exfoliate is tied to beauty. Cleansed pores and plump skin bring out vibrant and glowing complexion. And while most beauty regimens focus primarily on the facial area, exfoliating the entire body is important too.

2. Better health comes with the lesser known benefits. Exfoliation also stimulates the skin, increasing blood flow and circulation to the surrounding tissues and helps to move the lymphatic system.

  • The lymphatic system is a key part of the body’s waste disposal process and responsible for eliminating cellular wastes.  
  • When the lymphatic system is stimulated and moving, it prevents stagnation and buildup of wastes.
  • Moving wastes out of the body, also know as detoxifying, quickly eliminates inflammation and the illnesses that all to often comes with it.

There are a few very easy ways to exfoliate your body, stimulate the skin and lymphatic system and therefore help to detoxify your body. Here are a 2 of my favorites:


1. Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is an easy daily practice that requires one simple tool and about 2 minutes of time. Plan to dry brush before you shower so that your skin gets washed clean of toxins afterwards.

The primary purpose of dry brushing is moving the lymphatic system. Always brush upward from the feet to the legs and groin, from fingers up the arms to shoulders, all moving towards the heart. Then the chest, back and stomach, continuously moving in a circular motion. Avoid brushing the face with the harsh dry brush that is used for the body. A more delicate approach can be used on the face.

2. Towel Scrub

Towel scrubbing is a detoxification practice that is used by those who follow the practices of macrobiotics. Towel scrubbing only requires a small towel and hot water. Knowing that it will dislodge toxins, it should also be done before bathing.

To towel scrub, dip a small cotton towel or washcloth in hot water and wring it out. Then scrub the body all over in small firm motions, including hands and feet. Rinse the towel periodically to reheat it, as the temperature is important to help open pores. Macrobiotic practitioners say that the hot towel practice opens pores, releases stored toxins, softens deposits of hard fat below the skin and allows excess fat, mucus, cellulite and toxins to be released.
