How Blueberries Help Your Body

Growing up, my family had blueberry trees around the property, so we were always out picking these amazing berries. We would freeze them to use them later in smoothies and blueberry loaves and sometimes would even just eat them frozen!
Blueberries are small, but their impact on your body is way bigger than their size. So next time you’re making your smoothie or adding blueberries to a new recipe, think of more than just the taste, the size or the color. Think of the reasons that blueberries can benefit your body.

Blueberries Aid Metabolism
Blueberries are high in fiber content and because of this, digestion occurs easily and quickly. Fiber helps to improve the function of the gastrointestinal tract, which helps make your body break down and metabolize food before your body absorbs excess calories. Blueberries can also help relieve constipation.
Blueberries Contain Anti-Aging Nutrients
An essential nutrient that your body needs to keep your skin glowing and looking great is vitamin C. Blueberries produce vitamin C as an antioxidant that protects you from external factors, such as free radicals that could damage your skin or cause wrinkles to appear too early.
Studies have also shown that the production of antioxidants such as flavonoids provide protection against memory problems as well as cognitive decline and diseases, such as Parkinson’s Disease. These antioxidants combat free radicals, which otherwise can easily cause damage to the DNA and the body itself.
Blueberries Boosts Energy Levels
Your body feels stronger when your brain feels energetic. Blueberries contain gallic acid, which helps protect your brain from oxidative stress that reduces your brain’s performance. Blueberries are also good for athletes or people who engage in intense body activities. With nutrients such as vitamin A, magnesium and folate, the body can easily recover from injuries and strain.
