Houseplants You Should Have To Clean The Air

Written by: Brandi Monasco

We are constantly surrounded by polluted air, no matter how much we try to sanitize ourselves and stay away from contaminated areas, we still seem to be bounded by polluted air.

From the smoke of a car’s exhaust pipe or a nearby factory, the dust and dirt of a busy road, or a garbage dump, it’s like everywhere you go is polluted. What we really are not aware of is that our homes are polluted as well.

Not only are our homes polluted, but also areas like our offices that are meant to be clean and safe. This is a result of exposure to manufactured synthetic products that emit toxic chemicals like trichloroethylene, formaldehyde or benzene.

The quality of the air is risky to public health as it is responsible for facilitating asthma, allergies, auto-immune disorders and many other diseases and conditions.

However, research conducted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has proven that plants could help clean the air. The research revealed that plants are helpful in improving the air quality as they clean the air through the process of photosynthesis.

Using houseplants to clean the air is economical and costs far less than expensive air purifiers. All houseplants purify the air, but some are more beneficial in removing toxins than others.

Houseplants That Clean The Air

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is largely known solely for its remedying components; however, it is not only beneficial for the skin, but it can also help to remove formaldehyde from the air. However, for the aloe vera plant to work at its best in removing toxic substances, it needs a well-drained soil that is faintly dried between watering.

So the next time you have an aloe vera plant, don’t use it all on your skin, make sure to keep it in your house to help clean the air.

Weeping Fig Or Ficus Tree

The weeping fig – which is also known as the Ficus tree – is capable of cleaning the air of other common airborne toxins that could be infections to humans. The Ficus tree can also help to increase energy levels within your home. The weeping fig requires bright light and sun and it also needs moderate water for proper growth.

English Ivy

The English Ivy is specifically known for removing benzene, the carcinogen found in detergents, pesticides, cigarette smoke and other synthetic material. It helps to remove formaldehyde while also preventing allergies and asthma.

Gerbera Daisy

The Gerbera Daisy has been recommended by NASA to be good at removing benzene, a chemical that causes cancer. It also absorbs carbon dioxide, which provides oxygen at night and makes you sleep better.

When having household plants, you also need to take caution by doing adequate research on houseplants as some plants might be dangerous to your pets or kids that bite or put items in their mouth.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
