Homemade Natural Body Wash

As soon as my mom told us we could stop using bar soap (it was totally drying out my skin!), I was on a mission to try all of the body washes the world had to offer  – along with that cute little mesh sponge.

Since then, I’ve tried plenty and bought into all of their claims – perfect for sensitive skin, acne-clearing, super-moisturizing, ultra-luxurious. But now, I honestly can’t remember any one product that I stuck with long enough to remember its name or its benefits.

Fast forward 20-some years and I’m back to basics. I’m trying to reduce the amount of toxic materials I put into my body and on it. Since the skin is the largest organ, I want to make sure that I’m feeding it only what it needs – and that means no added parabens, chemical-produced fragrance, or other ingredients that disrupt your body’s hormones and overall health.

Plus, I LOVE saving money, so if I have time – I like to make my own! The recipe below has just a few simple ingredients, including raw honey, essential oils and castile soap.

The Benefits Of These Amazing Ingredients

Castile Soap: Made from only vegetable ingredients, castile soap does not have any animal fat or synthetic detergents like many products do. It is gentle and moisturizing.

Raw Honey: The benefits of raw honey are seemingly endless – antibacterial, antiseptic and antifungal, raw honey has antioxidants to keep your skin happy and is a great cleanser and exfoliator.

Castor Oil: This ingredient is great for constipation (keep that in mind!), but here we are using it to moisturize the skin quickly.

Olive Oil: This oil contains 3 antioxidants – vitamin E, polyphenols and phytosterols – that help to prevent aging of the skin. Plus, olive oil doesn’t clog pores and helps to moisturize the skin.

Essential Oil: I’ve saved the best for last! Here, my friends, is where you get a yummy scent without using something from a chem lab. I personally love lavender and rose – but there are SO many oils that you can experiment with. Citrus or peppermint would be awesome for waking up the early morning shower people!

Homemade Natural Body Wash
  • 3 tbsp liquid castile soap
  • 3 tbsp raw honey
  • 2 tbsp oils (I used 1 tbsp each of castor oil and olive oil)
  • 10 drops of essential oil of choice (or more for your preferences)
  1. Carefully mix all ingredients by hand with a spoon in a glass liquid measuring cup. Do not use a blender, whisk or had mixer as this will create bubbles and make it impossible to get into a container.
  2. Pour into a (preferably glass) container.
  3. Put it to good use and enjoy!
