This is one of my favorites! Goji berries are a nutritional powerhouse. In the original Chinese pharmacopoeia, the goji berry was known for its youth promoting and tonifying effects. They grow naturally in places like the Himalayas and are also called wolfberries and Tibetan goji.
The bright red color of goji berries alerts us to their flavonoid content. These help our body with blood regulation and circulation. Goji berries are full of polysaccharides that support and balance the immune system.
One of the coolest thing about goji berries is their ability to stimulate our internal ‘Fountain of Youth’ or Human Growth Hormone (HGH). This is critical in anti-aging. They contain beta-carotene, which helps to promote skin health. They also help to break down excess estrogen in the liver that causes menstrual symptoms and other women’s health issues.
Goji berries also make a great energy-boosting snack. A study done by the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine showed that drinking goji berry juice daily for two weeks helped participants to feel increased energy and also helped to improve their digestion.
One group of powerful antioxidants are called carotenoids. Different carotenoids help different bodily functions. Those in goji berries specifically help liver and eye health.
