Currently, you and I are living in a toxic environment, my friend. Everywhere we go there are more and more toxins creeping up on us; it is estimated that there are 42,000 new ones every year. Should you live in fear, build a giant bubble and only go outside in that plastic construct that protects you?
I mean, there are…
Heavy metals in the air.
Fluoride in the water.
Pesticides in our food supply.
Chemicals in our cleaning tools.
EMFs just about everywhere.
Funky compounds in our plastics.
Should we be scared? Angry? Bitter? Sad? Hopeless?
I don’t think so.
Mother nature has provided some amazing super foods to help us thrive amidst a tough environment. Super foods help the body detox, strengthen and boost the immune system, support bodily functions and even provide protection from external threats.
Let’s dive right into the amazing facts about super foods that you may have never heard before!
#1 Superfoods help protect your body from Radiation and EMFs
Chlorophyll is a green-pigmented molecule that gives plants power to absorb energy from the sun. Research has shown that it is also important for people who want to achieve and maintain good health. Not only does it promote healing and cleansing in the body, but it can even help protect us from the harmful effects of radiation and EMF exposure.
In a study done by the United States Army, Guinea pigs who ate chlorophyll-rich diets were exposed to lethal doses of radiation. These guinea pigs experienced half the mortality rate than those guinea pigs who were given a non-chlorophyll rich diet.
Wheatgrass is one of the richest sources of chlorophyll. The juice is at least 70% chlorophyll and can help to control hunger cravings, reduce body odor, relieve swelling and redness from infections, promote cleansing and healing in the body, and even protect DNA against fried foods.
The most popular way to eat wheatgrass is to juice it. If your body is mostly acidic (the result of eating too much acidic food) it is said wheatgrass will taste bitter. Otherwise, it can actually be pretty good! I’ve even thrown full wheat grass stems into my smoothies.
#2 Superfoods help your body cope with STRESS
When it comes to stress, Ashwagandha is the star of the show. Sounds like this plant could help you do some serious yoga or teach you how to be enlightened, doesn’t it?
Ashwagandha is one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurvedic medicine, and use of the root can be traced back over 3000 years. It has been called “King and Queen of Herbs” and is esteemed very highly for its medicinal properties. In Sanskrit, Ashwagandha actually means “smell of horse” – sounds like it will taste great, right? Not really, but don’t let that sway you. It was named this because it is known to give people the strength of a stallion and has been prescribed by practitioners to help people boost their immune systems after an illness.
The Ashwagandha plant is a tonic and an adaptogen, which means it restores the brain and body to homeostasis after physical and psychological stress. It can help pull you back to normal after both extremes… when you need that extra kick at the gym in the morning, or if you need to wind down at night to sleep.
A study published in the “Indian Journal of Psychological Medicine” shows that Ashwagandha achieves a highly significant reduction in stress and anxiety, and serum cortisol levels. In fact it was able to reduce cortisol up to 27.9%.
Turmeric is a popular spice that is widely used in India. It’s easy to use and inexpensive. The main ingredient found in turmeric is curcumin and most of it’s medicinal properties come from this active ingredient. Turmeric has a vibrant yellow-orange color that has also been used as a textile dye.
Other studies have shown that Turmeric is comparable than 14 medications including aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, a chemo drug called Oxaliplatin, certain diabetes medication, hydrocortisone and phenylbutazone.
Ashwagandha is known as India’s most potent hot plant. It is used equally by both men and women. Some doctors in India, when referring to its effects on romance, claim it to be ‘the best of the best’. A big part of this probably has to do with the herb’s stress-reducing abilities.Stress and anxiety have both been linked to infertility issues.
Bee pollen, royal jelly, maca powder, rhodiola rosea (an herb), cordyceps mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms are all superfoods that are known to improve romantic feelings.
#5 Superfoods help with diabetes and blood sugar levels
A study done by universities in India showed that Flax Seeds have potential in helping diabetics regulate blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
An animal study done at the University of Allahabad in India showed that Moringa Leaf was effective in lowering blood sugar levels by 26.7 and 29.9%! Moringa is commonly used to treat diabetes in India.
In 2007, Moringa leaf was recognized by the National Institute of Health as the Bonaical of the Year. It is said to have saved more lives in Third World countries than any other plant, and has potential to treat over 300 diseases.
A review of multiple studies done in Switzerland and Harvard showed that Raw Cacao benefits the cardiovascular system and may help with blood pressure, insulin resistance and blood lipids.
True cacao comes from the seeds of the fruit of the cacao tree that is native to the tropical regions of Mesoamerica. The natives used it for food, medicine and even currency. From archaeological evidence, it seems to have been very highly valued, chronicled in pottery and stonework. A Greek word classifies it as “theobroma” or “food from the Gods”. Cacao residue has been found in ceramic vessels dating back to 1900 BC.
#6 Superfoods help you live longer and healthier
In his book, “The Detox Miracle Sourcebook” Robert Morse, N.D. says “The ancient Greeks ate nothing but fruit and each generation reached the age of 200 years.”
If you were to sit a young child down at a table full of different foods, which ones would they grab first? Most likely they would pick the high energy, colorful foods like fruits and berries.
Berries have incredible antioxidant and cell-protecting nutrients called phytochemicals. These neutralize free radicals in the body that may otherwise cause disease. They help protect us against EMFs and radiation. The flavonoids in berries helps us with mental clarity, memory and learning. Study after study links eating fruits and veggies to healthy weight and no cardiovascular disease.
Goji berries stimulate your internal fountain of youth, otherwise known as the human growth hormone. This is critical for staying young.
Residents on the islands of San Blas off the coast of Panama are said to have extremely low rates of heart disease and high blood pressure. This is assumed to be due to their diet that is full of vibrant fruits and vegetables.
The father of Chinese medicine said, “It is the diet which maintains true health and becomes the best drug.” Truly God or Existence has created a planet rich with foods to help our bodies heal themselves. Your body can be its own physician if simply given the right tools; whole, real, unmanipulated foods straight from mother earth.
Remember, we’re in this together.
