Juicing is awesome! It is an easy and powerful way to get lots of micronutrient into your system the quickest possible way.
However, you don’t want to go on a fruit juice diet. You want to drink green juices instead!
Whaaat? GREEN juices?!
That’s right!
Fruit juice is not always the best choice…
I know that when you were growing up, juice meant fruit juice and fruit juice usually meant fruit juice from concentrate coming from a box. I hate to tell you this, but what you didn’t know back then is that orange and other fruit juice concentrates are faaaaar from healthy. To be fair to your mom, she didn’t know it either. Fruit juice manufacturers tend to advertise their products are healthy drinks. But they are not.
First of all, fruit juice concentrates are concentrates, NOT real fresh juices. Secondly, they’re usually made with preservatives and even some additives (processed sugars and artificial ingredients). Lastly, they are pure sugar going quickly into your body without any fiber to slow your digestion, so they spike your blood sugar, then lead to a sugar crash. They can even lead to inflammation in your body.
Oh. No.
How about fresh fruit juice though?
Though fresh fruit juices are certainly natural, fresh and served without artificial ingredients or additives, they are often still not the best choices. They are full of vitamins, but many fruits also have a high GI. If you drink them as straight juice, they will quickly spike your blood sugar. There is a reason fruits have fiber. It helps slow down your digestion, preventing blood sugar problems and allowing your body to receive nutrients efficiently.
Choose Green Juice Instead Of Straight Fruit Juice!
The best way to drink fruit juices is to mix them with greens and veggies to make GREEN JUICES. Again, you want to opt for fresh home-made or fresh pressed store-bought green juices to avoid artificial ingredients and added sugar.
Adding some fruits to your green juices will make them sweeter and more delicious. I promise, they won’t taste like kale!
Opt for low-GI fruits. Apples, green apples in particular, are your best choice for their low-GI content and refreshing taste. Pears are also great for similar reasons. Pineapples are also a good choice as they are anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and add a tropical tang. You may also add some berries for their antioxidant benefits. Acai berries are powerful super berries that are particularly great in fruit juices and green juices.
Use this trick to make thick green fruit juice: another great way to add fruits to your juice is to make a green juice first (using greens, green vegetables, ginger, lemon, maybe an apple) then put it in a blender along with some fruits (berries, pineapples, papaya, etc.). Blending it up, the fiber will remain in the juice and you will end up with a thicker smoothie-like green fruit juice. Yumm.
Fun fact: though you may look at cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes as vegetables, theoretically, they are fruits and are excellent in green juices!
Are you ready to make some juice now? Try these 10 recipes and I promise, you will never pick up another fruit juice concentrate in your life.
