Fresh Pressed Juice Is The Healthiest Drink For You
Written by: Kat Gal
Summer is right around the corner. The sun is shining. All you want is some fresh juice.
Don’t go into the nearest supermarket though and mistake boxed juices for fresh juices. They are filled with processed sugar, artificial ingredients and have probably never even seen a fruit or vegetable in their life.
You want to have some healthy, organic and truly fresh delicious juice. Preferably you want to have green juice over fruit juice. Fruit juices are high in GI (glycemic index) and mess up your blood sugar. You want to pick fruit smoothies and whole fruits instead. For fresh juices, you want to pick green juices made with organic greens, vegetables and some low GI fruits, such as green apples.
But what if you don’t have a juicer or you don’t feel like making your own juice?
Don’t worry, there are many fresh organic juice delivery systems out there. You may be able find fresh juice bars in your area or your local cafes may serve some fresh juice too (just ask!). You can even buy fresh cold pressed juices at your local health food stores and even regular supermarkets, thanks to the booming market of fresh juice businesses.
What Is Cold-Pressed Juice?
When it comes to juicing, cold pressed juice is your best choice. Cold pressing works similarly to your hand-cranked citrus juicer. It extracts the juice between two metal plates.
Note: cold pressed juicers can be pricey. If you can only afford a cheaper centrifugal juicer, they are great for home juicers. Just make sure to drink your juice right away as juices made in a centrifugal juicer don’t last too long. When buying juice at a juice bar, cafe, store or juice delivery, be sure to get cold pressed juice to ensure quality and safety.
The Benefits Of Cold Pressed Juices
Cold pressed juices are filled with vitamins and minerals. There are no added sugars, artificial ingredients or other additives in your juices. Most companies use organic ingredients. By drinking cold pressed juice, your body will feel happier for receiving more nutrients that can be absorbed easier, as opposed to simply eating one or two pieces of fruit.
The Downsides Of Cold Pressed Juice (Fruit Vs. Green)
Juices are practically free of fiber, unlike whole fruits, whole vegetables, smoothies, salads and veggie-filled meals. Fruit juices tend to have a higher GI than a whole fruit. They tend to raise your blood sugar levels, which can lead to sugar crashes and even health issues. The fiber in whole fruits – even in smoothie format – slows down your digestion and the sugar makes it into your system at a much slower pace. Therefore, it is more beneficial to opt for smoothies and whole fruits over fresh fruit juices.
Green juices on the other hand are usually made with very little fruits and normally with the lower GI varieties, such as green apples. Opting for green juices when choosing your fresh juice is the best way to go to receive lots of nutrients quickly.
While organic green juice cleanses can help you to detox your system and kick-start a healthy diet, you don’t want to live only on juices for too long. Make sure to eat a balanced diet with lots of whole foods – greens, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, whole grains – and only supplementing your diet with a daily dose of green juice.
