“Make sure your worst enemy is not living between your own ears.” – Laird Hamilton
I have a friend that beats herself up a lot.
If something doesn’t go her way, she judges herself silly. She’s always thinking about what is NOT working right and what she could have done better. I like to call this painful habit self sabotage.
Do you have a talent for self-sabotage? If I had to guess, then I would say you are reading this article because you or someone very close to you self sabotages on a regular basis.
It could be that you want to wake up early to workout, but stay up late watching a show or eating junk food. Maybe you want to be ambitious in your career, but beat yourself up so much that you don’t have time to excel. Maybe you have high goals and expectations for yourself, but are constantly oversleeping, procrastinating, or spacing out right when it matters.
It is frustrating when people are constantly reminding you of your potential and even giving you endless opportunities to succeed, but no matter what, you seem to always throw a bomb into your own life.
You may feel alone, but self sabotage is actually a very common problem we have as human beings.
The Opposite Of Self Sabotage And Disappointment
“Find out where joy resides and give it a voice far beyond singing. For to miss the joy is to miss all.” – Robert Louis Stevenson
Self sabotage leads to disappointment. To feel disappointment about yourself is the exact opposite of JOY. So in order to beat self sabotage, you’ve got to replace it with joy.
Joy is something so powerful, it moves mountains. Joy is the heart of the universe. Joy is the essence of who we are as human beings.
So I want you to ask yourself this: when was the last time you had radical amounts of joy?
Your wedding day?
When your child was born?
When you got accepted to that incredible school?
When you met your lover for the first time?
Christmas as a child?
Think about one of those times that brought you so much happiness you couldn’t contain it. Think about that feeling of joy emanating from the core of your being.
The 7 Day Challenge To Beat Self-Sabotage
“Pleasure is always derived from something outside you, whereas joy arises from within.” – Eckhart Tolle
My challenge to help you rise from the bondage of self sabotage and back into joy is this: for the next seven days schedule 60 seconds to meditate on a time when you were full of joy.
It may seem simple, but by midweek I guarantee you will start to see some shifts in your state of being.
Most people walk around ruminating on moments in life that hurt them, that were hard, times that they messed up or that they regret.
Let’s flip that. Let’s be a community of joy. I want you to learn to focus on the GOOD. What is there to be joyful about? What is one thing in your life that gives or gave you radical amounts of joy? Leave it in the comments below.

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
