Foods That Help You Lose Weight

Written by: Brandi Monasco

It’s the beginning of a new year and that means that a lot of people are wanting to shed those few pounds that they may have picked up over the holidays. Some might have a resolution to lose pounds that they’ve been meaning to lose for a long time. Either way, losing weight is hard, but it doesn’t have to be TOO hard.

In fact, knowing what foods to eat that can help you lose weight can make it easier and here are a few of those amazing weight loss foods.

Green Tea. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants that not only keep you healthy, but can also help you to lose weight. These antioxidants restrict the activity of a carbohydrate digesting enzyme found in your saliva. This enzyme works by slowing down the way your body digests carbs, which helps in preventing a rise in insulin. The antioxidants help raise your metabolism and help you to burn off extra calories.

Beans. Beans contain a type of fiber called soluble fiber. Soluble fiber lowers high cholesterol levels. The soluble fiber also helps in controlling your hunger by keeping you feeling full for a longer amount of time.

Oatmeal. Oatmeal creates a gel-like substance that fills your gut when it is eaten. This gel-like substance helps to lower your bad cholesterol and also keeps you feeling fuller for longer. Therefore, when you eat oatmeal, you will be able to reduce your urge for eating more sooner than you would without eating oatmeal.

Sweet Potatoes. Sweet potatoes actually contain more fiber than oatmeal does. And because they contain more fiber, sweet potatoes not only help to lower your cholesterol levels, but they also help with losing weight. They keep you feeling full and keep your appetite satisfied for a longer amount of time.

Apples. Apples are full of water and fiber, both of which help keep you feeling full. They are also full of pectin, which can help prevent blood sugar from spiking. Eating apples not only helps you lose weight by keeping you feeling full, but they are also great at knocking out that sweet craving.

Nuts. Nuts contain a large amount of healthy fats that are beneficial for lowering your cholesterol levels. They are also loaded with fiber that takes more time to digest and stays in your body longer. And because it stays in your body longer, you are able stay feeling full. One study found that women who ate nuts at least twice a week were able to lose weight better than those who did not eat nuts.

It’s easy to incorporate each of these foods into your daily diet. You can even sneak beans into a smoothie!

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
