Feeling Stuck? 4 Easy Steps To Get You Going Again

You set your goals and intentions. You started strong, but something happened along the way. You feel less motivated. You are not progressing. You are sabotaging yourself. You are suddenly stuck.
Don’t worry, you can fix this with these 4 easy steps.
4 Steps To Getting Yourself Going Again
#1. Go Back To Your WHY.
Having a strong ‘why’ is very important in achieving your goals. Why do you want to lose weight? Wanting to fit into your wedding dress or skinny jeans may seem like a strong enough reason at first, but it may not be. Dig deeper. Why is it so important to fit into your dress? How do you want to feel in it? How will you feel when you lose the weight? Think both physically and emotionally? What will you able to do if you lose the weight? How will it affect you long term?
Look beyond yourself. How will it affect you, your family, your friends and perhaps the world? Perhaps you will be a better partner or friends with more energy and smiles, or perhaps you will be able to help others to gain better health too.
Dig as deep as possible to find all the reason behind your why and how your end result will create magic in your life and in the life of others. Once you have your why, write it down, stick it on your fridge, post it on your pin board, put it on your vision board and add it to your journal. Use it as a reminder. Keep going back to it to refine it, to dig deeper and to make it stronger.
#2. Think About What’s Holding You Back?
We usually sabotage ourselves because of fear. Self-sabotage can be very obvious. For example, when you are simply avoiding the gym or not drinking your green juice, even if it’s an important step to achieve your goals, it is a very obvious self-sabotage. But self-sabotage can be more invisible.
If you are seemingly doing everything (or most things) right and according to plan, yet, you are not seeing results or feeling emotionally empty and not into it, it may be a hidden self-sabotage. Your body and mind are so hesitant and afraid that they are sabotaging you, even when you try to have it all under control.
What is your fear behind your self-sabotage? Often it is the fear of failure. But it can be a fear of success too: after all, living a life of health and happiness may be so unfamiliar to you that deep inside, it feels scary.
Write down your goal. Take a deep breath. Look inside. Ask yourself what’s going to happen if you achieve this goal. Write down your answer. Look at this answer again and ask yourself what’s going to happen. Write it down. Look at your answer again and ask what’s going to happen. Keep asking yourself what’s going to happen until you get down to your core fear.
This core fear is often loneliness, being unloved or death. Once you get to your core fear, sometimes just acknowledging this fear can help you to see how unrealistic this may be. But if seeing your fear doesn’t help you out, you can start working through this fear. Journaling, meditating, practicing relaxation techniques, movement meditation or working with a therapist or coach can all be helpful with working through your fears.
#3. Refine Your Techniques
You know your why and you know your self-sabotaging fears, it is time to go back to your steps. The end result may be the same, but there are many ways to get there. You are an individual and you need an individual plan.
Maybe juicing works for many people, but you need smoothies, raw meals or perhaps more cooked foods in your diet. Maybe you need more or less fats or carbs than the book you’ve read said so. When it comes to diet changes, it is good to get some blood tests done and to work with a holistic doctor and dietitian to find out your individual needs.
You can also try new things. Maybe you are sabotaging your yoga class because you don’t like it. Go to a different teacher or studio. Try a different form of yoga. Try a different form of movement. Maybe lifting weights, running, aerobics, or pilates is more your yam. Maybe mantra meditations work better for you than watching your breath or vipassana. Maybe you will love salads with kale, instead of the salads with lettuce. Don’t give up your goals, but refine your steps.
#4. Get Support
Making a life change can be difficult and lonesome. You need support. Even if your family or friends seem supportive of your goals, if they are not making the same changes and have different goals, you still may feel alone, especially when hitting a road bump.
Look for people with similar goals. Online you can find support groups in just about any topic. Join them. Make connections. Set up skype calls and chat away with your new friends. Perhaps you find people in your area and you can meet in person.
In-person connections are often the best. Look for groups in your area. Watch the bulletin boards at cafes and stores, ask around at gyms and of course, Google. If there are no support groups, set one up.

Don’t forgo professional support either. Joining a therapy group or working with a counselor, therapist, healer, mentor or coach is extremely beneficial as well. Set up a network of professional and social support. The more support you have, the better chances you have to succeed, but even one supportive buddy makes a huge difference.
Remember, hitting a road bump is not the end of the world. Ups and downs are part of your life. The times when you are feeling stuck or down are opportunities to re-evaluate, to change direction, to get inspired again, to learn and to continue stronger than ever.
