Essential Oil Lip Balm Recipe

By Brandi Monasco

Chapped lips are one of my worst enemies and because of that, I constantly carry and apply lip balm every few hours. I can’t stand the feeling of dry lips! The soreness, the cracking, peeling; I’d rather not.

Your lips can become chapped from a variety of reasons such as the weather, dry air, constant lip licking and even some medications.

But you may not want to cover your lips in the chemical laden chap stick that you can pick up at the store, so…

How about making your own lip balm with soothing essential oils?

Homemade Peppermint Lavender Lip Balm
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons of beeswax
  • 10 drops essential oils (for this specific recipe: 5 drops peppermint, 5 drops lavender)
  • 1 vitamin E capsule
  • You will also need a double broiler
  1. Heat the beeswax and coconut oil together in the double broiler. Stir frequently until both are smooth and completely melted.
  2. Add the drops of essential oil to the coconut and beeswax mixture.
  3. Poke a hole in the vitamin E capsule and add the liquid to the mixture. Stir all ingredients together.
  4. Pour your newly made lip balm mixture into your container and allow it to cool for up to 1 hour (depending on the size of your containers).

Why This Balm Works

Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer. It contains fatty acids that create a barrier and help to lock in the moisture so that your lips will remain soft and smooth. Coconut oil also acts as a natural sunscreen because it has an SPF of 3. It may not necessarily give you full protection from the sun’s rays, but you will have more protection on your lips with it than without it.

Beeswax is also a natural moisturizer. Beeswax locks in moisture and allows your lips to remain soft and chapped-free and also provides deep hydration so that you’re not just getting the hydration on the outer skin of your lips. It also contains vitamin A, which aids in allowing cells to develop naturally and create a protective layer on your lips that can shield you from the sun’s rays.

The vitamin E oil soothes rough, dry skin. It also has antioxidants that help with healing. As with the other ingredients, vitamin E oil helps your lips retain their natural moisture by locking it in.

Both peppermint and lavender essential oils have many proven health and beauty benefits. For this lip balm, the peppermint oil can help protect your lips against any damage that might be caused by the sun’s rays. The peppermint is also cooling to your lips and you will get the great peppermint taste. Lavender oil helps to relieve pain as well as helps wounds recover. If your lips are extremely chapped and they’re causing you pain, the lavender oil in the lip balm should do the trick!

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
