Essential Home Remedy First-Aid Kit To Always Have On Hand

By Brandi Monasco

First aid kits are usually filled with bandages, alcohol pads, ointments, tweezers and other medical necessities that all are good to have around in the case of a minor emergency. In fact, you should always make sure that you keep a first aid kit in your home and in your vehicle. You never know when “just in case” might happen.

There is also a more unconventional first aid kit that is great to have around to compliment your conventional first aid kit.

Here are a few things that you should consider filling your home remedy first aid kit with:

  • Aloe Vera. Aloe vera is very useful to alleviate burns and inflammation of your skin, even minor sunburns. It can also be used to help bug bites and rashes. If you have an aloe vera plant, simply snip of a piece and you can place it in your kit, or if you prefer you can purchase aloe vera gel that might last a bit longer in storage.
  • Lavender Essential Oil. Lavender oil has amazing properties such as antiseptic, antispasmodic and antibacterial. It can be applied to cuts and minor burns. The antiseptic and antibacterial properties together act as a barrier to guard against infections.

Lavender essential oil is also useful when it comes to headaches. You can rub a few drops onto your temples and massage the area for a few minutes. If you end up with a bug bite, placing a few drops of undiluted lavender essential oil on the spot can reduce the swelling and stinging of the bug bite. The oil can also be used as a natural insect repellent that repels fleas and mosquitoes.

  • Cayenne Pepper. Cayenne pepper can be used as a tincture or a powder. It is beneficial for increasing both blood circulation throughout your body as well as digestive secretions that help with the digestion of food. When you use cayenne pepper externally, it can help reduce pain and stop bleeding of minor cuts or wounds. It can also be used to help reduce inflammation if an injury occurs, such as an ankle sprain.
  • Echinacea. This herb is great for any first aid kit, whether conventional or home remedy. Echinacea stimulates your immune system and helps to fight off any cold or infection. It is also great at being used to reduce inflammation. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, echinacea can be used for allergies. It can be taken internally or applied externally for infections and bug bites.
  • Chamomile. Chamomile is known to relax your body and mind when you have trouble sleeping. It can be brewed as a tea that can be drunk at night time right before bed. It can also be used as a tincture to be used on toddlers who are teething. Chamomile also contains antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties that can be used to relieve digestive issues as well as be applied on your skin to help soothe skin irritations.

Along with these home remedies, it is also important to make sure you have these items in your first aid kit:

  • Bandage materials such as gauze, adhesive bandages and elastic bandages
  • Thermometer
  • Tweezers
  • Scissors
  • Waterless hand sanitizer

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
