Erwan Heussaff Inspires Internet With 7-Day Water Fasting

Erwan Heussaff, youtuber is breaking the internet with his 7-day water fast.

For 7 days, Erwan ate absolutely nothing and has lost 6 kilos. His sister, Solen, also participated in the challenge, though she introduced soup at night on the fifth day and lost only 2 kilograms. For Erwan this was a Fitspiration attempt to motivate the world to live a healthier lifestyle. Now many of his followers are embarking on this 7-day fast as well.

What Is A Water Fast?

A water fast is basically a zero calorie diet. For a period of time, you are only drinking water, taking on no calories whatsoever. The goal of such a fast is to cleanse your system and detoxify your internal and external tissues from toxins.

The benefits of a 7-day water fast:

  • Increases insulin sensitivity, leading to less blood sugar level fluctuations
  • Decreases inflammation
  • Lowers stress levels
  • Decreases blood pressure
  • Improves body repair, recovery and healing
  • Increases immunity

  • Improves digestion and digestive issues
  • Inspires emotional and spiritual introspection

 

How Do You Do A Water Fast?

As suggested in Erwan’s video, it is best not to jump into a water fast if you haven’t done other cleanses before, including raw food cleanses and juice cleanses. The length of your fast doesn’t have to be 7 days long either. You can fast for only 1, 2, or 3 days. Listen to your body before and during your fast.

Just to be safe, talk to your doctor before embarking on such a plan, especially if you are experiencing medical issues. Your experiences and results may be different depending on your weight and health. Some find it more grueling and experience more fatigue than others. A few may experience health complications. Medical supervision throughout your fast is also recommended.

  • Plan your fast. Visit your doctor. Clear out your schedule. Though Erwan and his sister exercised regularly during their water fast, it is not recommended and you may not have the energy to be active.
  • Eat a nutritious diet leading up to the fast. You may want to focus on juices, smoothies and light raw foods the day before. Don’t be tempted by a burger or Chinese buffet the day before. You will regret it.
  • During the fast, drink distilled or mineral water, minimum of 10 8-oz glasses a day, preferably more.
  • Be gentle with yourself. The first 2-3 days are the hardest with cravings and sudden hunger bouts. You may experience weakness, dizziness and nausea. Don’t write up everything as detox though, pay attention to your body and break the fast or seek medical advice as needed.
  • Rest. Read, write, meditate, stretch, sleep, go inward. Avoid exercise if possible.
  • Break the fast with something easy like a watermelon. The next day move onto soups, green juices and smoothies, adding steamed veggies on the third day only. Do not overindulge.

 

Though you can expect weight loss, a part of it will be water weight and once you start eating you will likely gain a part of it back. This is a cleanse, not a quick fix for long-term weight loss. You will likely experience more mental clarity and a healthier and cleaner body. To keep the benefits and continue your health journey, make sure to follow your fast with a lifetime of healthy whole foods with lots of greens, veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, whole grains, beans and legumes.

Juice Fasting May Be A Better Choice

Though your body is cleansing during a water fast, it is not receiving any nutrients. Doing a green juice cleanse or even a green smoothie or raw food cleanse can give your digestion a break, detoxify your body and improve your health while supplying you with lots of vitamins and minerals. Through the abundance of nutrients taken in through green juices and smoothies, your body can benefit even more.

Daily Cleansing

Cleansing is not about a week long fast. Cleansing is a daily action. It is a necessary part of a healthy lifestyle. You have to take care of your health through a healthy, whole foods diet every day. Avoid processed sugar, processed foods, artificial ingredients, GMOs and additives.
