There is something I find so satisfying about sweating from my forearms during a workout.

To me, it signifies a job-well-done!

You’ve heard that logging regular sweat sessions is vital to your overall health (because it is). But, what is also important for your body is to rehydrate and refuel it during and after your activities.

Plain ol’ water can do the trick – but why not kick it up a notch with both flavor and health benefits by making your own electrolyte drink (AKA “sports drink”).

If you have been reaching for store bought sports drinks over the years, it’s time to kick that habit to the curb and make this DIY electrolyte drink.

What Is Lurking In Your Store Bought Drink?

Sure, you can pop into your local convenience store on the way to your workout and pick up a sports drink (Gatorade, Powerade).

But did you know that when you are sipping on these manufactured drinks, you are ingesting:

  • Sucrose syrup
  • Mystery “natural flavors”
  • Glucose-fructose syrup
  • Blue 1
  • Linked to ADHD, allergies and asthma
  • Red 40
  • Triggers hyperactivity and hypersensitivity

YIKES – that is reason enough to stay far, far away from store bought sports drinks!

The good news is that you can quickly and easily mix up your very own natural and homemade electrolyte drink.

DIY Electrolyte Drink
 
Ingredients
  • 3 cups of coconut water
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • ½ cup freshly squeezed lime juice (alternative: lemon juice)
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp raw honey
Instructions
  1. In a glass jar or bottle, mix together all of the ingredients.
  2. Store in the refrigerator .
  3. Will keep for up to a week.

  • Filtered water – Hydrates your body and helps improve your energy levels
