Effective Ways To Use Bentonite Clay For A Detox
Written by: Kavata Kithome
I remember how when I was a child, every so often my grandmother would rinse her mouth with a grey concoction and while my grandmother had that old lady smell – you know the one I’m talking about – her breath always smelled fresh. This was even after eating foods that didn’t have the best of smells in my opinion.
She used this concoction at various viscosities for almost all parts of her body, from her face to her feet – she even drank the stuff at times.
I later came to find out that the grey stuff was clay – bentonite clay, to be precise. I recently wrote an article regarding the potent detoxifying powers of bentonite clay. I now know why my grandmother used it so frequently!
Why would YOU want to utilize bentonite clay?
This clay helps rid your body of fluoride, combats dietary toxins, fights environmental toxins, removes metal toxins and helps improve your overall immune system.
It can be that effective and is ultimately fun to use!
Here are 3 simple ways to detox using this amazing clay that you can start using today:
Note: Bentonite clay is a potent detoxifying agent that should be used with caution.
#1. Face Mask
There is nothing more invigorating than a face mask. Using bentonite clay for your face mask gives you the added bonus of cleansing your pores, removing bacteria and leaving your skin with a soft, radiant glow.
It is best when mixed with a liquid that has a low pH to help keep your skin at a healthy pH balance. Apple cider vinegar is great choice.
- Mix 2 tablespoons of clay with apple cider vinegar until it turns into a soft paste.
**If you choose to add essential oils, be sure to mix them in well.
- Using your clean fingers or a brush, apply the mixture onto face and neck.
- Sit for 5-10 minutes, being sure not to let it dry completely.
**If it does begin to dry, spray your face with clean water to keep it moist.
- Rinse with warm water and gently pat dry with a clean towel and then moisturize.
This is not the best tasting thing in the world, but it is a great way to remove toxins and bacteria. This is what my grandmother did from time to time to help keep her mouth clean.
- Mix ½ teaspoon clay with ¼ cup of filtered water.
**I add 3-4 drops clove or peppermint oil to help with taste.
- This is key: take small sips and swish for about a minute and repeat until the mixture is finished.
- Rinse mouth of yucky clay taste and enjoy the feeling of clean freshness.
#3. Clay Bath
When I was a child, it was like I was a guided missile for mud when it rained; it drove my mother to her wits end for sure. I am always excited when I take a clay bath, it reminds me of when I was young and carefree.
Taking a clay bath is a great way to detox your skin. The clay pulls toxins, dirt and impurities out of your pores and better yet, can promote healing. This is especially great for me when my eczema flares up. I like to add essential oils as they give my skin and senses an added aroma and therapeutic bonus.
- Add 1-2 cups of clay to your bathwater.
- Soak for 15 minutes (careful not to overdo it, as clay is potent and powerful).
- Rinse off and enjoy an overall soft, clean feeling.
What if you don’t have a bathtub? Try using the face mask recipe, except all over your body. Just be sure to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated and rebalance your system after your “bath.” I personally love to drink a concoction of coconut water, lemon, pink Himalayan sea salt and honey.
Bentonite clay is truly a gift from the earth and is a great remedying medicine that is essential to add to your arsenal of natural homeopathic medicines. I must advise, however, that you consult your physician before using the clay and also, when mixing your clay, do not mix it in or with any metal bowls and utensils; instead use glass, ceramic, or wooden bowls and utensils.
