Eat Your Boogers! Research Claims It’s Good For You

Ahhh the sights, sounds and smells of a foreign land… ONE of the many, many reasons why I love to travel.
People watching in different countries has to be one of the BEST ways to learn about the culture and life of its residents.
Sometimes you observe beautiful things… other times strange… and other times shockingly bizarre.
After 24 hours in Thailand, I couldn’t help but notice SO MANY people picking their noses in public. And I’m not talking a discreet little itchy-itch. I’m talking about a knuckle deep scavenger hunt.
I even saw one street vendor give his finger a rigorous swirl in his nostril, pull it out to take a look, then lick his finger like a lollipop before proceeding to nostril #2.
** Did you just gag as well? **
Now, before you and I get all high and mighty… according to science, Mr. BoogerEater could be onto something.
Get ready for it…
EATING BOOGERS CAN HELP YOUR HEALTH.
The Science Of Eating Boogers
So, here is the theory of WHY people eat their boogies:
A biochemist from the University of Saskatchewan, Scott Napper, proposed that nasal mucus (boogers) have a sugary taste that is MEANT to entice you to want to eat it.
Mmmm tasty *gag*.
By doing so, Napper believes that this actions helps introduce pathogens from your environment to your immune system.
The result? It helps build up your natural defenses.
In our modern society, which tends to be obsessive about cleanliness, scolding kids (and adults for that matter) for this “dirty” habit may actually be counterproductive!
How Eating Boogers Helps Your Immune System
Your health is determined by the state of your immune system. What this means is that whether you get sick or not when you’re exposed to germs depends on how strong your immune system is.
When you eat boogers, you are exposed to the bacteria in them. As a result, this helps your immune system grow stronger.
“Science says, we should ALL be eating our boogers… let’s talk about that.” Skip to 8:45 to learn about the science of eating boogers:
