5 Breakfast Foods Everyone Should Know: Fight Fatigue, Boost Metabolism, Lower Inflammation
By Kat Gal
Eating my delicious fruit salad consisting of strawberries, blackberries, apples and kiwi got me thinking about the importance of breakfast.
Some say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
I would argue that all meals and snacks are equally important, no exception, however, it is true that it is crucial to start your day with nutritious food that will give you lots of energy for your day. Starting your day in a healthy way will also help you to make healthier choices throughout the day.
Plant-based foods are a good option as they tend to be full of fiber, vitamins and minerals. B vitamin-rich foods are especially fantastic, as they provide you with lots of energy. Plant-based proteins and fats will keep you full and satisfied until lunch time.
Here are the top 5 foods you should include in your breakfast to get the energy boost you need to get through your busy day.
Papaya is a tasty tropical food that is high in vitamin C and is very anti-inflammatory. It is great for your digestive health, especially because its enzyme, papain, helps you to digest protein. Papaya is great as it is, in a fruit salad, or mixed with your granola or yogurt.
2. Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are an increasingly popular superfood. They are not only a complete protein source, but are also rich in magnesium, iron, B vitamins and essential fatty acids. Chia seeds are great when they are soaked in almond milk, coconut milk, or water, creating a chia pudding. Add nuts and top it with fruit to create a delicious breakfast.
Papaya is expensive and can be difficult to find unless you live in the tropics. Bananas on the other hand are very affordable and available nearly everywhere. They are abundant in potassium and vitamin B6, which are both great for your nervous system. They are an excellent source of tryptophan that is good for your hormones.
4. Green Juices And Smoothies
Green juices and smoothies are excellent because they provide you with a chance to be creative and make something new every day. Green juices get to your blood quickly, providing you with easy energy, while smoothies are loaded with fiber for more sustainable energy. They are both loaded with greens – lettuce, kale, bok choy, parsley, or whatever else you may choose to add – providing your with necessary minerals and vitamins.
Berries are an excellent fruit choice to start your day because of their low GI levels. They are full of antioxidants to keep your body happy and healthy. Berries are a great addition to your green smoothies or fruit salads. They are wonderful mixed in with your granola, coconut yogurt and of course, eaten as they are. To keep your costs down, you can also use frozen berries.
Eating breakfast is not only necessary, but can also be fun. If you include these suggestions in your morning, you will set your body up for success. Of course, there are many other great breakfast options you can choose from. Don’t stress. Pick whole foods and get creative.
