I had 3 dates today. And my husband didn’t even mind.
I’m not talking about dates with other men, of course.
I literally had 3 delicious dates. You know, those delicious little fruits that grow on palm-trees! There are so many types. The dates you find in your health food store are usually sweet varieties. Medjool dates are my personal preference.
Eating dates is incredibly healthy! They are super nourishing with huge amounts of health benefits for your body. Dates are a great source of fiber, minerals and vitamins and are good for your digestion, able to relieve painful constipation, diarrhea and other intestinal complaints.
If you add only 3 dates to your daily diet, these 5 things can happen:
1. Improve Digestive Health
Dates contain a lot of soluble fiber, which is necessary for your digestive health as it draws water to the digestive tract – hence the potential relief from constipation. Dates are full of potassium that can also help diarrhea and an upset stomach.
2. Help And Prevent Anemia
Anemia, which is due to low iron levels, is a common issue amongst most people; women and endurance athletes are especially prone to it. Anemia can leave you exhausted, but dates are there to rescue you, because of their iron content.

Dates contain magnesium, manganese and selenium, which are minerals that are also important for keeping your bones and blood strong and healthy. Dates aren’t only a good snack – they can also help keep your body strong.

Dates are filled with natural sugars, including fructose, sucrose and glucose. If you are afraid of sugar, let me assure you that just like other fruits, dates are full of fiber. Fiber can keep your energy up without the crash you would normally experience from any other sweet treat.
I’m not saying that you should eat a whole box dates, but indulging in 3 a day can bring you benefits along with a little party for your taste buds.

Dates are full of potassium, which is also good for heart health. It reduces your risk of stroke and can lower your LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol. Dates really are a hearty snack for your heart’s health.

How To Use Dates
There are so many ways to use dates besides just eating them as a snack. You can use them in raw dessert, add them to your smoothies or salad dressings or make date syrup.
And you can add it to your raw chocolate bars as well!

Energy Date Chocolate Bar
- ½ cup of raw cacao powder
- ⅛ cup slivered raw almonds
- ⅛ cup pecans, chopped into small pieces
- ⅛ cup of chopped dates
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 drop of vanilla or almond extract
- ⅓ cup coconut oil, melted
- Optional: coconut flakes, cacao nibs, more cinnamon
- Add the cacao powder and the cinnamon to the coconut oil and mix well.
- Spread mixture into a cookie baking sheet covered with wax paper.
- Sprinkle the almonds, dates, pecans, cacao nibs and coconut flakes over the mixture.
- Put it in the fridge until it hardens. Serve chilled. Keep it in the fridge as coconut oil melts in warm room temperature.
