DIY Homemade Sunscreen

Ingredients
  • 1 oz coconut oil
  • 0.8 oz shea butter
  • 0.1 oz jojoba, sesame, or sunflower oil
  • 0.1 oz vitamin E oil
  • 30 drops of your favorite essential oil (this is optional)
  • Zinc oxide powder (if you have 2 ounces of lotion and want to make SPF 10 sunscreen, you will need to use 0.2 ounces of zinc oxide; see recommendations below recipe)
Instructions
  1. Add coconut oil, shea butter, a jojoba oil (or whichever oil you choose to use) to a double boiler that contains a few inches of water.
  2. Heat the ingredients until it is melted.
  3. Removed from the double boiler and allow to cool a little.
  4. Put a mask over your nose and mouth to avoid breathing in the fine particles of the zinc oxide powder.
  5. Measure out your zinc oxide powder.
  6. Add the zinc oxide powder, vitamin E oil and your favorite essential oils to the other ingredients.
  7. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  8. Store in a dark colored jar in the refrigerator.
