It’s time to talk about mindset once again. To me, this is a topic that can never be fully covered. It is my favorite thing to dialogue about because it speaks to the very essence and core of the human experience.

Aside from eating nutrient dense foods and juice cycling, your mindset is arguably the most important piece to a successful and sustained transformation. For this reason, at Fitlife, we spend a lot of time on mindset, encouraging our clients to shift their mindsets with simple tools that help them change their relationships and outlook on their transformation and overall health and wellness.

As a health coach, I expect weekly check-ins with several different measurements in order to get an understanding of my clients progress and opportunities. Reviewing your progress helps you focus, evaluate your performance, repeat successes, learn from failures and most importantly, improve.

You must ask yourself why – why are you setting the goal? This question is addressed when we have our clients fill out the whydentity, simply because as Shakespeare once said, “strong reasons, make strong actions.”

In order to achieve your goal, you have to have a firm grasp on what is motivating you. This goes for any goal, whether it be your finances, relationships or health. Your goals must be strategic and big to be effective.

Here are 4 simple strategies to determine if your goal is worth the pursuit.

1. Is It Important?

Is your goal actually important to you? The best way to determine this is by looking over the last week or two and writing down all the things you were involved in; this is a great way to determine what your values and priorities are. You will be able to see how much time you spend on your goal and determine if it really is important.

2. Determine Your Goal

Create an achievable and measureable goal; the key is that the goal should be challenging and big enough to motivate, but also realistic and achievable. Using the S.M.A.R.T. formula, ensure that your goals are Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound.

3. Use Chunking

My sister is a master at this technique. Chunking and breaking our large goals into smaller goals makes the goal seem more manageable; for example, “I will do my meal prep every Sunday,” or “ I will eat one salad a day,” or “ I will cut down my coffee intake by one cup.” This subtle shift in your mindset from outcome to process allows you to plan more effectively and increases motivation.

4. Track Your Progress Frequently

This is by far the most important step, this allows you to not only build momentum, but to also identify anything that is not working. For our clients, we measure their weight, sleep, mood, cravings and hunger to determine their progress. By consistently checking in, my clients are able to improve their satisfaction, well-being and happiness. This process also allows them to visually see their progress.

As a health coach, I support you in your goals. My job is to celebrate your success and support you where you need help. Remember that failure is a stepping stone, not a tombstone and that we all must create a space of support by making the commitment to do 1% better than we did yesterday.

Today I challenge you to take a look at the goal achieving strategies above and apply them to a few of your goals. What is your goal? Does chunking make the goal more attainable? Are you able to create a way to track your goals? Let us know your progress in the comments below!

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
