Easy Paleo Cumin-Cooked Cabbage Recipe

Paleo Cumin-Cooked Cabbage
Many people like cabbage and even more like to have a one-pot meal. That means less cleanup! If you’re getting bored with the regular salad each night, try this paleo cumin cabbage. Not only does it taste great, but you get so many benefits from each of the ingredients in this recipe!
- 1 head of cabbage, shredded
- ½ cup of shredded carrots
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 minced garlic cloves
- 1 inch minced ginger root
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- 1 tbsp ground coriander
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chili flakes
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- Sea salt and ground pepper to taste
1. Heat the coconut oil in a skillet.
2. Add the cumin seeds, garlic, ginger, paprika, coriander, turmeric and chili flakes.
3. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
4. Add the cabbage and carrots.
5. Saute for 2 to 4 minutes.
6. Add ¼ cup water.
7. Cover and cook for about 8 minutes.
Cabbage is a great vegetable for heart health. The anthocyanins that are found in red cabbage help protect your body against cancer as well as inflammation that could cause heart disease later on in life. Cabbage is also great for giving your digestive system a boost because when it is fermented in a form such as kimchi or sauerkraut, it becomes loaded with probiotics that help your digestive system.
Carrots help to improve your eyesight because they are loaded with vitamin A that helps you to see color and in dim light. They also help decrease your cholesterol levels and therefore, reduce chances of heart disease. They also contain loads of vitamin C. This, along with vitamin A, makes your skin stronger and helps your hair and nails shine, beautifying your outer self as well.
Cumin is loaded with iron that helps to keep your immune system working at its optimal level. It also helps in producing energy and maintaining your metabolism. Cumin also has anti-fungal properties, which can help alleviate the symptoms of a cold.
Garlic works as a natural antibiotic that helps your body fight against infections. Garlic works in your body, enhancing the ability of white bloods cells to help fight infections. It also stimulates other immune cells, allowing them to also fight bacterial and viral infections.
Ginger helps to fight against colds as it works as a natural antiviral. It also acts as an antihistamine and decongestant. An active ingredient in ginger called gingerol helps to alleviate muscle soreness and pain such as headaches and osteoarthritis.
Paprika contains vitamin E which works as an antioxidant to help protect your body from damage that can be caused by free radicals. It also contains vitamin A which is needed to help keep your eyes healthy.
Coriander is great for your digestive system. It helps to promote liver function and bowel movements. It is also loaded with vitamin K which can help prevent the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease.
Turmeric can help prevent cancer by stopping the growth of cancer cells and can even destroy cancer cells. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce inflammation which is great for those who have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
Chili flakes are flakes from chili peppers. They are loaded with vitamin C which acts as an antioxidant and helps with your immune system and mending wounds. They also contain potassium. Your body requires potassium because it serves many functions throughout your body. Having an adequate amount of potassium in your body helps reduce your risk of heart disease.
Coconut oil helps reduce your chances of heart disease and high blood pressure. Even though it is an “oil,” coconut oil contains “good” fats that can help lower your “bad” cholesterol levels. It also contains antioxidants that can help reduce inflammation.
