Easy Herbal Remedies For Common Ailments

When many people have a small ailment or even a cold, the first thing they often turn to is over-the-counter medications. And while that is perfectly fine to do, there are actually a lot of side effects that can come with the long-term use of over-the-counter medications.
Take acetaminophen for example, or more commonly known as Tylenol. It is one of the most popular over-the-counter medications that is used in the United States. Excessive or long-term use of acetaminophen can cause liver damage and can potentially be fatal.
Fortunately, there are other alternatives that you can stock your medicine cabinet with, alternatives that are so much less harmful than over-the-counter medications and prescriptions.
Using herbs instead of medication can provide you a simple, quick and less harmful way to get help for many ailments. Most herbs can also be used for more than just one purpose.
Here are some great herbs to get you started:
- For Depression: Use St. John’s Wort or Gingko Biloba. St. John’s Wort has been found to be effective in helping depression. Using it can help relieve the symptoms of depression and may elevate your mood. Gingko Biloba is commonly used to help increase cognitive function and help your memory. It can also be used to increase your energy and put you in a better and more positive mood. Both St. John’s Wort and Gingko Biloba can be found at your local pharmacy both in tablet and capsule forms.
- For Bacterial Infections: Use garlic. Garlic is effective in helping your body fight off infections that are caused by bacteria. Eating raw garlic is the best in fighting infections. However, you can also take garlic tablets or use the juice of garlic. Garlic can also be very easily added to different dishes and recipes to not only add flavor, but to also give your immunity a boost.
- For Fungal Infections: Apple cider vinegar has amazing antimicrobial properties that can kill fungus that is causing the infection. It also has an acidic nature that will help prevent the infection from spreading as well as help the infection to recover fast. To use apple cider vinegar for fungal infections, simply mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar into one cup of warm water and drink it twice a day. You can also soak the infected area in a mixture of apple cider vinegar with equal parts of water for 30 minutes.
- For Anxiety: Use valerian root. Valerian root is known for its sedative effects, which can ease the symptoms of many ailments. It also contains anti-anxiety properties that can help calm your nerves and allow you to relax. You can find the actual root and make it into a tea. Valerian root is also found in powdered form and in tablet or capsule form. To make a tea using valerian root, pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoonful of dried valerian root. Steep the tea for 5 to 10 minutes.
