Today we want to talk about biohacking your kids! Let me explain. I’m not talking about putting electrodes on your kid’s head. I’m talking about health and mindset! There are ways to put your kids in a optimal state of health and I want to teach you how to help them thrive.
In this Saturday Strategy we are going to tackle some MINDSET hacks for kids that you can do on a daily basis.
Gamify The Childhood Experience
Every morning I get out a little yellow post-it note and I write down several things that my kids get to do that day. My kids love to check things off. So on their post-it note I will create little boxes that they can cross off as they complete each task. Then they can proudly present this to me or their mom at the end of the day.
On the post-it note, I write down…
One thing that’s HARD.
For example, I might tell them to carry a bag of sand back and forth on the driveway 4-5 times. That’s their workout for the day and something to challenge them.
One thing that’s FUN.
This could be something as simple as having a lego battle with dad for 20 minutes before dinner. Anything that they will look forward to that I know will be a good time for them.
One thing that’s SPIRITUAL.
For spirituality I really just want my kids to take some time for themselves to ponder and to meditate. One thing I like to have them do is light a candle and sit in the sauna for 15 minutes and just think about their day or how they’re feeling.
And one thing that involves LEARNING.
This is always something that they get to learn how to do that day. Climbing the rope hanging from a tree in the back yard and doing a new trick, learning how to cook something with mom, reading a book at the library about something they’ve never read about, etc.
Imagine how many things a kid can learn if they are discovering something new 365 days out of the year!
More Tips For Creating Excellent Mindsets In Children
Here are a few more simple habits you can encourage your kids to do every day in order to grow powerful, healthy mindsets.
When you start the day off with a feeling of gratitude, it does a HOST of good things for you! It lowers blood pressure, reduces stress, increases feelings of happiness and positivity and even has longevity benefits. I encourage you to do this one right alongside your kiddos!
There’s a step further you can take with your gratitude journals. When my family gathers to have dinner together we bring our journals to the table with us and use them to spark conversation.
Eat As A Family
We protect our dinner time as a family, because we know how important it is to our interfamily relationships. This should be an absolute MUST in every home across the world! Make eating together a regular routine and watch how it can strengthen your relationships with each other and improve your quality of life.
Self Control With Electronics
I am not against electronics. We have them in our home and use them regularly. Rather than banning them, I think it is more important to teach self control. Don’t use them at the dinner table unless it’s for something happening in the conversation like looking up something you don’t know that everyone is curious about.
Stay present in real life and ensure that electronics don’t become a wall between you and your kids. You don’t want them growing up with their strongest memories being of you staring at a screen.
Tip: One thing I like to use my phone for at the table is TABLE TOPICS. This is a fun website where you can find great questions to spark conversation at the dinner table.
Children thrive in routines. Create solid, dependable routines in your home. These can lower your kids’ stress, improve their sleep and help them to feel safe.
As parents it is so important to make intentional, thought-out choices in how we raise our kids. A lot of these things are so simple, yet carry tremendous benefits for them as they grow up.
