You’re a health-seeker, a kale-icious super-trooper and a start-the-day-with-a-superfood-smoothie sort of person. I know. We’re in the same tribe. So it won’t come as a surprise to you that I try a ton of superfoods, herbs and potions – and I love doing so! You’re probably doing the same thing (a big CHEERS to you!).

But, I do confess… not all of them make it on my “A” list. In fact, there are some that hit the trash faster than I can say,kale- chips!”

If, like me, you have a few packages, jars or bottles of this and that sitting barely touched at the back of your pantry, then we need a few minutes together.

Now, be honest… you know which items I’m talking about… you read about them or someone raved about their results and you jumped in to check them out for yourself and while you tried to love them, the truth is – they just weren’t cutting it for you.

So, there they sit and the question that pops into your mind whenever you see them is “what was I thinking?!”

Before you ditch anything and declare it a dud, first check out these great ideas to help you repurpose what you have on hand! I’ve come up with some creative ways to incorporate Cacao Nibs and a few other challenging items into DIY Body Care Recipes that are now on my fave list that my clients love – and I know you will too!

1. Cacao Nibs – On top of the list of things my clients love to hate are cacao nibs. These deceivers look and smell like gorgeous nuggets of chocolaty goodness, but one bite will school you.

If eating the nib is not for you, shift your focus and utilize these magnesium powerhouses to your advantage.

My Chocolate Body Scrub (below) not only smells great, but it also has the benefit of being a fantastic odor neutralizer and skin brightener. Use it on stinky feet and armpits or as a general body scrub. Don’t be surprised if you want to lick the scoop!

  • Chocolate Brownie Body Scrub: Combine 1 cup brown sugar, ½ cup coconut oil, 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder and ¼ cup cacao nibs (crushed to a sandy consistency or finer).

Scoop out this scrub with your fingers and rub it on your body in small circular motions. It’s scrumptious on feet, ankles, knees, butt cheeks and belly.

Do your armpits a favor and give them a scrub with this mix as well; the circular scrubbing motion will help stimulate lymph flow while also removing stubborn deodorant residue.

2. Chlorella Powder – Rich in amino acids and antioxidants, chlorella is great for detoxifying skin. The beta carotene in chlorella is skin protective, helps improve circulation and even brings out skin tone.

  • Emerald Goddess Face Mask: Combine 1 teaspoon of powdered chlorella with 1 teaspoon of raw honey or mashed avocado.  Mix.  Add 1/2 teaspoon of water to thin if necessary.

Paint this gorgeous green mask on your face (avoiding your eyes) and leave it on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water and a dark facecloth.

3. Kombucha – This probiotic powerhouse is a perfect skin toner and pore tightener, so if the taste is too much for you or if that gelatinous scoby is scary, try these ideas:

  • No Frills Toner: Simply paint the kombucha onto your skin or soak a clean washcloth in ½ cup of kombucha, wring it out and lay it over your cheeks, nose and chin (avoid your eyes) while you put your head back and rest for a few minutes.

When you’re done, splash your face with cool water and go forward with a groovy glow!

  • Scoby Mask: If you’ve been gifted a Scoby, have extra Scoby or have a Scoby that grew in a bottle of Buch, give this a try. Because no 2 scoby’s are the same size, you will need to go with your gut on texture.

In a blender, combine your Scoby with enough kombucha to make a paste that is applesauce consistency. You can add a splash of aloe vera juice if you have it. A drop or two of therapeutic grade lavender essential oil is also nice.

Once blended, drape a towel over your shoulders to catch any drips and then paint the mixture on your face (avoiding your eyes). Leave this on for a few minutes before rinsing off with cool water.

BONUS RECIPE:

  • Groovy Green Detox Salt Scrub: Combine 2 tablespoons powdered chlorella, ¼ cup plain kale chips (crushed to a powder), 1 cup fine sea salt and ½ cup coconut oil. A drop or two of therapeutic grade peppermint oil enhances the energizing feel of this scrub. Use this just like the Chocolate Brownie Scrub!

Now You Have These Great Recipes, What Do You Do Now?

1. Check out your pantry and cabinets for those items that are candidates for repurposing.

2. Try one or more of the recipes here and let me know how it goes.

3. Post below and tag me if you have an item that is a real challenge! I’ll do my best to respond with an option for you.

4. Bonus points if you create a repurposed item recipe and post it!

Important Note: It’s best to do a skin test before you try anything new. Paint a dime sized area with the mixture you’re testing. Leave it on for the length of time that the recipe calls for and then wash it off. If you notice anything undesirable, then pass on the recipe and try something else! Safety first!

What Our Clients Say*

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
