Do You Prefer Juicing Or Smoothies?

Written by: Brandi Monasco

Healthy living requires you to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your daily routine, but there are a number of ways to do so. There is a constant battle between smoothies and juicing, about which is better and which provides you more benefits. Where there are numerous benefits of one method, there are an equal number of benefits of the other also.

Which one do you go for? Should you juice the goodies or simply blend them?

Juicing

Juicing involves using a machine that works in extracting all the water based juice out of the vegetable or fruit. The pulp is left over and simply discarded. Therefore, you are drinking the pure extract minus the fiber. On one hand, juicing is more nutritious because you are able to fill a glass with more nutrients than when making smoothies.

If you are in need of immediate nutrients, juicing is one of the best ways to get them in. Also, where fiber is a great addition to the diet, too much of it will slow down the absorption process, which can reduce the nutrient benefit of the drink. Drinking without the added fiber will ensure 100% absorption of nutrients rather than the 70%.

Smoothies

Smoothies are made by directly blending the fruits and veggies, pulp and all. Making smoothies gives you a lot of fiber, which is great for your digestive tract. It also fills up your stomach, giving you a full feeling that helps to counteract your appetite and aid with weight loss. Even more, you have a greater control over what you are putting inside yourself.

There are only so many fruits that you can blend for a smoothie, which keeps your nutrients in check. However, when you juice, the nutrients may exceed normal limits, which results in the body simply flushing the extra nutrients out. On the downside of this, smoothies can also contain weight gaining foods like yogurt which you need to keep note of at the same time.

There really is no winner when it comes to juicing or making smoothies. Each method has its own benefits and uses, which make them suited to a particular function. If you desire weight loss, then drinking a smoothie with its fulfilling and satisfying nature is a better option. If you are concerned about your nutrient levels and want to correct them, then juicing serves more of your need. Both ways are nutritious, it just depends on you to decide which way suits your needs best.
