DETOX And Ease Inflammation With Homemade Candied Turmeric

If there is one food to get pumped up about and readily enjoy in your daily diet… it’s TURMERIC. This versatile herb can be added to just about any recipe to amp up it’s health factor.

Transforming turmeric’s bitter taste into a sweet one is as simple as using raw honey to make your very own candied turmeric.

How To Make Candied Turmeric

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound fresh turmeric
  • 1 ½ cups raw honey
  • 1 ½ cups filtered water 

Instructions:

1. Wash and peel the turmeric (you can leave the skin on if desired).

2. Slice the turmeric into very thin pieces (or small cubes).

3. In a saucepan, add the turmeric and cover with the honey and water.

      • Bring to a simmer and then reduce to low heat.
      • Cover and let simmer 30 minutes. 

4. Remove lid and let simmer another 30 minutes.

      • Turmeric will become tender.
      • The syrup should be reduced by half. Save the “turmeric syrup” in a sealed glass jar for future use. 

5. Remove from heat and let cool.

6. Pour the mixture through the strainer.

      • Allow honey syrup to drip off turmeric pieces. 

7. On a baking sheet with a wire rack, lay the turmeric pieces out in a single layer.

    • Allow turmeric to sit out and dry for 12 hours.
    • Alternative: use a dehydrator on low for 8 hours. 

STORAGE: Store the candied turmeric in a glass container with a lid in the refrigerator.

Enjoy these candied turmeric pieces as a sweet and simple snack, or use as an ingredient in your favorite smoothies, baked goods, protein bars, or salads!
