We talk a lot about inflammation here at Fitlife. This is because most people suffer from inflammation in some way, shape, or form – and we know that this is very concerning.

Our mission for all our clients is to help them eliminate inflammation and restore their bodies to healthy and optimum levels. It’s one of the best and greatest things about the transformation program. We do this by using an elimination diet (i.e. sugar, dairy, soy and gluten).

When I began my own transformation with Fitlife, I had serious food sensitivities and suffered from aura migraines and itchy eczema and as you know, I was really desperate to find a solution that worked. I was looking for a lifestyle that I could adopt going forward.

I learned many wonderful things from my transformation, but one thing that stands out the most is the topic of inflammation.

I learned the different types of inflammation (for example, the inflammation I lightly touched on in a previous post where I discussed how some inflammation is actually good). We all have experienced acute inflammation – this is when you catch a cold, or when you scrape your knee or in my case when I dropped piping hot oatmeal on my leg.

But chronic inflammation is a different story; it is the kind of inflammation that the 90-day transformation program was created to eradicate.

Here are 7 common signs for chronic inflammation:

1. The Dreaded “Spare Tire” Around The Waist

When suffering from inflammation, the fat cells in the abdomen churn out inflammatory chemicals and the more belly fat you have, the more chemicals they create.

2. High Levels Of Blood Glucose

At Fitlife, we ask our clients to forgo all types of sugar (yes, even fruits). Why? Because many of us have high blood sugar levels. This environment increases the number of inflammatory cytokines circulating in the blood and, especially while undergoing a transformation, it’s important to avoid anything that can trigger those cytokines.

3. Digestive Problems Such As Gas, Diarrhea, Bloating Or Constipation

When your gut is sick and inflamed, you may experience one or more of these uncomfortable and embarrassing symptoms. A leaky gut that allows toxins to escape into your bloodstream is one of the leading causes of chronic inflammation.

4. Constant Exhaustion, Depression, Anxiety Or Brain Fog

When your cells are inflamed, they become sick and are unable to produce the energy that you need to feel refreshed and invigorated, thus contributing to feelings of depression. As a result, you also experience chronic fatigue, even when you get your recommended nine hours of sleep.

5. Skin Problems Like Redness And Blotchiness, Eczema, Psoriasis, Or Facial Puffiness

Studies have shown a powerful link between psoriasis and inflammatory conditions that manifest internally, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Skin problems can be a sign of internal fire.

6. Allergy Symptoms

Allergy symptoms like watery eyes or runny nose can be signs of inflammation.

7. Gum Disease

Your mouth is a great place to start if you want to get a clue about what is happening to you internally. Gum disease is a big flag for inflammation.

Now that you know some of the signs for chronic inflammation, the question becomes how to combat it.

As a health coach, I would encourage you to sign up for the 90-day transformation program, but maybe that is not something you want to do just yet.

In that case, I would advise you to eliminate the sugar, gluten, soy and dairy from your diet. Eat more anti-inflammatory foods, i.e. whole foods, lean proteins and healthy fats. While doing my transformation, I began to drink bone broth. I wrote an article regarding the amazing benefits of bone broth and even provide a great recipe! I also did my best to distress by practicing self-care, getting enough sleep and juicing.

All in all, the message here is that chronic inflammation is a fixable issue. Simply begin by eliminating the highly inflammatory foods and adding whole foods that your body will absolutely love and of course, get in your sleep! Your body recovers best when it gets the chance to rest.
