I started my 90-day transformation journey on January 5th, 2015. Emotional eating led me to develop a serious sugar and carb addiction. I was tired of being overweight, not feeling good and was looking for something to motivate me to be more healthy. I found Fitlife through a friend and my transformation started right then and there. I began my weight loss journey by losing 30 pounds and was blindsided when I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, positive to estrogen and progesterone and HER2 negative stage 4 metastatic breast cancer on May 13th, 2015.
I had always faithfully attended my yearly gynecology visits and had yearly mammograms. The tumor that was found was over 7 cm and had spread to my lymph nodes and T7 in my spine. The cancer was an aggressive form, according to my oncologist and wasn’t seen on the mammogram from May 2014 or felt by my gynecologist at my yearly visit in December 2014.
I began chemotherapy on June 5th, which resulted in the softening of the tumor, a very good sign. I will need to undergo surgery and radiation when I complete this course of chemotherapy later this year.
If I hadn’t lost weight, the tumor may have gone unnoticed even longer.
The diagnosis resulted in some unfortunate dietary changes, like no raw juicing. And I began to notice myself slipping back into my old habits of emotional eating and consuming more sugar. My cravings were coming back with a vengeance.
I definitely know that sugar feeds cancer, so why was I eating badly again when I knew it was not helping me, especially now?
I can’t really answer why. The journey of changing my mindset has been the toughest part of my transformation story thus far. I am constantly trying to work on changing this habit daily and most days, I do a pretty good job.
FAILING FORWARD, as Fitlife.tv says, is where I am choosing to place my focus. While I miss juicing right now, there are still beneficial things like drinking lemon water and consuming 80oz of pure water daily, both of which have helped me stay on track. I am making smoothies in place of juicing, adding superfoods to them and am getting in my daily exercise.
While there may be a detour on my road to transformation, a new journey and story has emerged. I am determined to fight this cancer with every inch of my being every day and know that I have a long journey of healing ahead. Driven to be a survivor and to be cancer-free, I am now feeding my body the right foods, which have been proven to not only fight cancers, but to also change your life for the better.
I am trying to stay on track and I am in it for the long haul! Cindy is a wife, a mother of three and a grandmother of four. Being overweight for most of her adult life, she had no success with dropping the pounds until she was introduced to Fitlife through a friend.
