Coconut Oil is Making Me SICK!

Why Is Coconut Oil Making Me Sick?
I didn’t think it could be true. I love coconut products, I know the benefits inside and out, and yet, I had never heard a negative side to them. That was until my mom called to tell me how awful she had been feeling after taking coconut oil for a while.
My mom, under my encouragement, had started taking coconut oil and then she began feeling nauseous, drowsy, and just lacked the motivation to do anything. She actually related the feeling to depression. She didn’t know why she felt so bad, but quickly narrowed it down to the coconut oil. She stopped taking it and felt better. She Googled it and found she wasn’t the only one who suffered from sickness caused by coconut oil.
And so, I had to do some research myself because I owe it to you readers to keep you fully informed. (Now don’t quit your love-affair with coconut oil if you are symptom free!)
The Lauric Acid
The reason why coconut oil is so fantastic for you is the high lauric acid content. Among some of the benefits lauric acid helps the thyroid, controls blood-sugar, and increases the good HDL cholesterol in the blood. Pure coconut oil contains about 50 percent lauric acid, and is the most abundant natural source of lauric acid available.
Now, I have found that one of the reason why coconut oil makes people feel so sick (nauseous, stomach cramps, vomiting) is due to lauric acid. Apparently, it is a common side effect that people have been suffering from. And what I have learned is that acids need to be introduced in small steps. Some people who have highly acidic diets in the first place have no issue adding coconut oil to their daily routine. Others who eat more base foods suffer the most. The trick is to start slow with 1/2 teaspoon and build up over time.
The De-Yeasting Effect
Lauric acid acts as an antiviral, antimicrobial, antiprotozoal, and antifungal destroying organisms such as fungus, bacteria and viruses. Another common issue I have found is that people may be suffering from gastrointestinal overgrowth without their knowledge. As they begin taking coconut oil the lauric acid begins killing off the overgrowth and they begin to feel very sick. Coconut oil reduces yeast in the body and can potentially give you flu-like symptoms for three to five days.
As large numbers of fungal organisms begin to die and release their toxins into the bloodstream people may experience headache, nausea, chills, or fatigue. These are actually signs of detoxification. This is a sign that the treatment is working and rarely lasts more than a few days and can be managed by increasing your fluids and planning a light schedule for those first days.
A person with a coconut intolerance will feel unwell or experience negative symptoms after eating coconut or products with coconut in them. With a coconut intolerance a person is unable to properly digest some of the compounds or parts of coconuts. They also may not be able to properly process, absorb or metabolize coconuts leading to digestive discomfort. The symptom onset is usually delayed and leads to non-life-threatening ailments, namely, stomach discomfort, gas, and bloating.
Although the prevalence is moderate to rare, coconut allergies lead to symptoms that are immediate and often quite severe (such as anaphylaxis).
