Your Doctor Told You to Exercise, But NEVER Mentioned Turmeric Works Just As Well
POSTED ON December 10, 2015 BY Drew Canole
You’re probably aware that heart disease regularly tops the list of one of our country’s most serious health problems.
And you’re probably wondering what you can doto preserve the health of your amazing heart!
I’ve got some awesome answers and research to share with you today so grab a green juice and let’s get started.
When you think about taking care of your heart, EXERCISE is likely one of the things that comes to mind.
I’ve made it a priority for several years to remain physically active and let me tell you – it has been one of the best things I have done for myself both physically and mentally.
Study after study has shown that exercise is just as effective (or in some cases, MORE effective) than the use of drugs for preventing heart disease and stroke.
But what if you’re experiencing chronic pain? What if you don’t feel well enough to hit the gym or go for a run? Are you doomed to develop heart problems or experience a stroke at some point?
Luckily, this is not the case!
Understanding Your Endothelium
Inside your blood vessels is what is known as the ENDOTHELIUM.
The endothelium lines the interior surface of all your blood and lymphatic vessels and is responsible to help with healthy blood clotting, inflammation, formation of new blood vessels, blood pressure regulation, repair of damaged organs and also working with your white blood cells.
FUN FACT: If you laid your endothelial cells side by side in a straight line, they would wrap about the earth FOUR TIMES!
Yet most people don’t even know what their endothelium is!
Taking care of your endothelium is extremely important for your heart and your overall health and well being.
The malfunctioning of your endothelial system almost always leads to…
Your endothelium is benefited largely by exercise AND by WHAT YOU EAT.
Fruits, vegetables and herbs in their whole form benefit your endothelium immensely… eating just ONE SERVING of fruits or vegetables has been shown to improve blood flow by 6.2%!
It’s true… WHOLE FOODS have incredible power to benefit your health! More so than ANY one vitamin or micronutrient.
Can Whole Foods Replace Exercise?
Well, let’s talk about it a bit.
Nothing can give you the same incredible benefits as exercise and physical activity. But if you are in a place where regular exercise is all but impossible because of poor health, what can be done? Your circumstances are far from hopeless!
We know that it’s more than just exercise that make the difference.
Foods matters just as much – or maybe even a little more – when it comes to your HEART.
Lucky for us, there are some absolutely amazing plants that provide similar benefits to your cardiovascular system as exercise!
Combine these healing foods with regular exercise and your cardiovascular system will wow every doctor you see.
The Difference Between Whole Foods And Pills
Studies have shown that the benefits of WHOLE FOODS, which contain JUST THE RIGHT combination of micronutrients, vitamins and minerals working in synchronicity, are way more powerful than any one separated vitamin in a pill.
So although taking a single multivitamin pill is a lot easier than trying to eat a balanced, plant-rich diet, it simply does not give you the same powerful benefits as whole foods will.
Think about this… although Americans are now spending over $17 billion a year on vitamins and supplements (mostly synthetic), the rates of chronic disease have not been reduced. At the same time, most Americans have slowly steered their diet from one packed with whole, real foods to a diet that consists mainly of processed foods, altered wheat products, pasteurized dairy foods, sugar and cooked foods.
In his book, Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition, T. Colin Campbell Ph. D. quotes a study that proved the vitamin C in apples was over 1000 times more bioavailable to the body than the vitamin C in a pill.
If you DO take supplements, make sure they are derived from WHOLE FOODS so that they are as bioavailable (useable by the body) as possible.
The Best Superfood For Your Cardiovascular System
So what is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory foods that you can use to benefit your heart and cardiovascular system?
You guessed it.
Unlike many popular natural remedies, turmeric has been studied EXTENSIVELY for its potent medicinal qualities and potential for helping with a number of human afflictions.
A study of postmenopausal women found that curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is as effective at improving the vascular function in women as aerobic training.
That means that women simply taking turmeric daily had the same or more cardiovascular benefits as women engaged in daily aerobic exercise.
Yet another study published in the American Journal of Hypertension found that combining both turmeric supplementation WITH regular exercise improved heart health THE MOST compared to those who only did one or the other.
ANOTHER benefit of using turmeric alongside regular exercise is that turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory and can help soothe pain and inflammation caused by exercise.
All I can say is that I use this superstar every single day and it’s made a HUGE impact on my health – and my LIFE.
Should You Still Exercise?
So to answer the question I asked at the beginning – NO, exercise cannot be replaced with a supplement.
It is important to understand that the MOST effective way to stay healthy, live longer and be free of illness and disease is to combine both a healthy diet with an active lifestyle. And use ancient herbs like turmeric to help you in the process.
Both exercise AND turmeric combined have proven to be very beneficial to your cardiovascular system!
