Breaking Out Of The Prison Of Indecision – Mindset Monday

What do you want? Like, seriously, what do you WANT?
There is something that is suffocating your happiness and keeping you from moving forward. This little thing pops up on a daily basis. If you can change the way you approach this, you will biologically wire yourself to be happier, more content and in control!
This simple thing that is keeping you from more happiness? It is your INABILITY to make DECISIONS!
You know what I’m talking about. You’re at a restaurant and take 10+ minutes to pick something. It’s date night and you want your significant other to decide what to do. You’re sitting in front of Netflix with a bunch of friends and don’t know what to watch.
It happens with bigger things too. Where you go to school, what you choose for a career, who you choose to date… are you constantly turning to others for their opinion on these matters? Seeking validation?
Are you one of those people who always wants to make the “RIGHT”, PERFECT decision? Do you think about certain decisions for hours, days, weeks even? Just not sure what you SHOULD do?
Exhausting, isn’t it.

Does this sound like you? If so, you are what I like to call a MAXIMIZER. By that I mean, you want to find the absolute best option in any given situation.
So, is there something wrong with being a maximizer? Not necessarily. Wanting the best things in life, not being satisfied with average, pushing your personal limits so that you can reach the extraordinary – this is a positive trait in you!
Maximizers like you tend to be ambitious, driven and passionate. But as you know, sometimes our biggest strengths are also our biggest weaknesses. As is the case with maximizers!
Sometimes maximizers get STUCK in life, in big situations or small situations, because they cannot figure out what the best decision is. When you are stuck worrying and overthinking a decision you have to make, it’s like sitting with someone who won’t stop changing the TV channel.
So when maximizers lose the ability to be satisfied with a “good” decision, they become stressed… anxious… insecure… worried… feeling “stuck”… and ultimately, out of control.
They may start to rely on other people to drive their life forward because they are too unsure to do it themselves.
What’s the solution here? It’s simple.
Commit to MAKING A DECISION and trusting yourself in the process.
Don’t rely on your friend, or your mom, or your teacher, or your spouse. YOU get to choose.
YOU GET TO DECIDE.
How To Be Happier – Ask An Expert

I’m not just making this stuff up. Science supports me! In particular, neuroscientists! I think they know a thing or two about how the human brain is wired. Dr. Alex Korb (neuroscientist, writer and coach) says that making decisions increases your likelihood of feeling happy by increasing dopamine and serotonin.
Those are your HAPPY and FEEL Good Hormones! Biologically, making a decision reduces worry and anxiety.
MAKING a decision is the same as FINDING a solution and naturally calms down your limbic system. It makes your brain feel like you are in control. It brings you natural confidence.
Newsflash: Sometimes There Is Not A True “Perfect” Decision

Even if you aren’t sure you know the PERFECT decision, commit to making the best decision for you and those influenced in that moment.
Trying to be perfect all the time actually overwhelms your brain and makes you feel out of control. What is perfect, anyway? Take a close look at how you measure perfection… you’ll find it is a very malleable and unstable standard to live by.
I’m not saying you should just recklessly choose things in life that you feel unsure about, but I am saying that you can take charge of your life and your happiness by MAKING THAT DECISION.
What’s the worst thing that could happen? You make a decision that doesn’t satisfy you and in the end, you learn a lesson and you move on.
So there you have it! The ritual that will BREAK YOU FREE from the PRISON of INDECISION and INCREASE happinesslevels in 2017.
