Best Natural Alternative To Antibiotics
Written by: Anthony Cocco
Back in 2010, the New England Journal of Medicine reported that per every 1,000 outpatients, 883 were prescribed an antibiotic therapy. Dr. Gregory Filice has since published a recent study indicating that roughly 56% of inpatients in U.S. hospitals are given antibiotic therapies on a daily basis.
Antibiotics are a multi-billion dollar industry and are one of the most common prescriptions for illness and infection. But, as of recently, it’s now becoming apparent that they are actually causing more harm than good.
Over 2 million people each year contract antibiotic-resistant infections, reported a 2013 study by the CDC. Roughly 23,000 people die each year as a direct result of antibiotic-resistant infections.
The Mayo Clinic states that these 8 most common viral infections gain no benefit from the use of antibiotics:
When I was a kid, I used to get chronic sinus infections. Each time I would go to the doctor, they would prescribe an antibiotic. After a few days the pain from the infection would decrease, but never fully go away.
Since the symptoms would at least reduce to a tolerable level, I thought that it was because the antibiotics were doing their job…
But don’t be fooled!
With the rise of superbugs (bacteria that are antibiotic-resistant), researchers and scientists are starting to look for more simple solutions, especially since the recent discoveries about antibiotics. To this day, raw honey has proven to be one of the BEST natural antibiotics, according to Susan Meschwitz, a chemist at the Salve Regina University.
Raw honey is pure; unprocessed, unheated and unpasteurized. Because of this, all of the natural enzymes, phytonutrients, vitamins and nutritional elements are preserved.
Here are 2 reasons why raw honey is better than antibiotics…
1. Honey attacks bacteria
The sugar concentration found in honey produces an osmosis effect that sucks water out of bacteria cells. This causes them to become dehydrated and eventually die, decreasing the risk of developing resistant bacteria.
From her research, Meschwitz has discovered that honey fights an infection on multiple levels by using its series of weapons: osmotic effects, hydrogen peroxide and polyphenols.
2. Honey breaks down bacteria communication
Biofilms, the communities in which bacteria harbor diseases, are prevented from forming. Honey breaks up the communication process, known as quorum sensing.
By doing this, the bacteria are not able to release toxins and further cause disease.
To get more raw honey in your life, try adding Y.S. Eco Bee to your smoothies, sauces, or even desserts. For me personally, I enjoy this deliciously refreshing beverage.

Raw Honey & Chocolate Smoothie
- 1 cup raw almond milk
- 2 tbsp raw cacao powder
- 1 frozen banana, sliced
- ½ avocado, pitted, chopped
- 1 tbsp raw honey
- Put all ingredients in blender and mix on high until smooth. Enjoy!
- If you have taken antibiotics, chances are that you may have depleted your healthy gut bacteria. You can restore them by taking a probiotic, such as Fitlife’s BioticBalance.
- Next time you go to the doctor, ask if raw honey can be used and be sure to share this information. Doctors should prescribe honey first and use an antibiotic as a last effort.
- Have you ever used honey as an antibiotic or natural remedy? If so, I would love to hear about it. Feel free to share with us in the comments below!
