Do you remember applying aloe vera to your sunburns as a kid? Or maybe your grandmother would place a snippet of an aloe vera leaf to your finger if you burnt it on the stove?

Aloe vera is a pretty powerful plant. It has close to 100 ingredients that work together to produce various properties when the plant is used. When it comes to health benefits, aloe vera actually does more than just help sunburns and minor burns.

The reason why aloe vera works so well when it is applied to sunburns and minor burns is because it contains compounds that help reduce pain and inflammation. These active compounds also help stimulate skin regrowth and repair when it is applied to minor burns.

Aloe vera also contains antioxidants and antibacterial properties that will inhibit the growth of bacteria that can cause infections. One study found that applying aloe vera to a burn helped it recover completely in less than 16 days compared to the individuals whose burns were treated with silver sulfadiazine.

Consuming aloe vera can help with digestion. Aloe vera has a lining that is called “latex.” This is the yellow, sticky fluid that you get when you snip open the leaf of an aloe plant. The latex of the plant acts as a powerful laxative that can help relieve you of constipation. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties that help alleviate some symptoms for those who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or ulcers.

The antioxidants found in aloe vera can help strengthen your immune system. These antioxidants include vitamin A, C, E and B12 as well as choline and folic acid. The antioxidants help to neutralize free radicals that your body comes into contact with on a daily basis.

The enzymes and antioxidants found in aloe vera break down proteins that you eat into amino acids and the enzymes are turned into fuel for your cells that aids in the cell function. When your cells are performing at their optimal level, your immune system strengthens, lowering your risk for contracting an infectious disease or illness.

Your mouth contains millions of germs and bacteria (gross!) and it has been proven in a study that using oral care products that contain aloe vera reduces periodontal disease and gingivitis, both of which are linked to increasing your risk of heart disease, lung infections, stroke and diabetes.

In a mouth rinse study of 300 healthy people, 100% pure Aloe vera juice was compared to the standard mouthwash ingredient chlorhexidine.” The study found that after just 4 days of use, the mouth rinse that contained aloe vera was found to be just as effective.

When you use a mouth rinse or any other oral care product that contains aloe vera, the aloe kills the bacteria called Streptococcus mutans that produce plague on your teeth.

On top of being applied to the skin, you can also drink aloe vera! Here’s how you can incorporate aloe vera into your daily diet:

  • Use aloe vera as an ingredient in your smoothies
  • Soak the aloe vera in purified water for 10 minutes before drinking it
  • Mix the aloe vera gel with water, then drink

During my FitLife transformation, I lost 70 pounds! That's why I signed up for the protocol, but the most exciting result is that I found ME in the process. I had been hiding under a pile of pounds, self-doubt, and grief! FitLife changed my life and I knew I had to share it with others.

-Lynne, Longwood FL

I started with Fitlife back in 2011-2012…I wrote into Fitlife asking for an extreme amount of help. I was 300 pounds, with high cholesterol, and Drew helped me transform my life. I lost over 130 pounds and I no longer have high cholesterol. Not only did I lose weight, so did my husband, who lost over 70 pounds!
